Can’t hang FM antenna anywhere!

The FM antenna connected to my amplifier in my home game room literally can’t be hung anywhere to get a good signal. The only way to get a good signal is by me holding it up in the air. I’m not going through the work of running a wire up 3 stories to my roof to hang an ugly antenna. What can I do?

Thanks

What particular antenna are you using? Is the game room in the basement or something that might restrict reception? Do you generally have good reception of FM elsewhere in the house? I haven't followed FM antennas in a while generally, but never had luck with the antennas that came with the gear (but do seem to remember they worked better while holding them :) ).... but haven't lived in a place that gets decent reception in a long time....

Not sure what that link is supposed to be, just get a failure message from vimeo.

Why not replace the antenna with something you can set in top of the receiver, or a table or something?

Welcome to AH.
Will that antenna work if you hold it up in the air behind the receiver? If so, why not just mount it on the wall, looks?

Maybe you don't even have to hang it? I have mine just draped on top of a bookshelf near the receiver. Of course it does help that I live on the 5th floor of an apt fairly close to the stations I listen to.

Don't we all just stream FM stations these days instead of using an antenna? I mean, that is a very real option if your favorite stations stream their broadcasts. Most do these days.

It is only $25 for an Echo Dot right now, and then it can be connected to a receiver/amp/speakers set up of your own choosing. So, not crazy expensive to get into integrated internet radio. And, a lot of people already own those devices, so it's worth trying out if you have it already.

It's pretty obvious that you need to change your antenna, you can check a few options. I found my Stellar Labs antenna and I'm more than pleased with it.
