i purchased a cambridge audio azur 540a amplifier about 4 months ago. about 2 months later, upon coming home from work, i noticed the amp was running very hot. i popped in a cd and the sound was distorted. after the amp cooled down the cd played correctly. the amplifier is in my bedroom and is left on at night. before the above incident the amp was silent as far as i remember. now there is a hum coming off the amp that is audible when no cd is being played and the room is quieter. does anyone know what this means? a friend as told me that the heat has compromised the capacitors.

I would think it is still under warranty, isn't it? If so just get it looked at or exchanged.

Whether it's the capacitors, the inductors, or the resistors, one thing's for sure. It's under warrantee. ;-)

Question with questions.

Hi ananas (cool name, means pineapple), and Welcome to Audioholics.

Do you by any chance listen to music quite loud sometimes?

Also, do you have only one set of speakers connected to your Cambridge Audio Azur?

And since about two months ago, do you remember any change in your system setup?

Are you French by any chance?

Bob
