Calling all Onkyo x06 owners

I just pulled the trigger and purchased a new 806. I was very excited to get it home and put it in my new entertainment center (it was an expensive weekend) and when I slid it into the receiver spot I thought to myself "there is not a lot of clearance above it, damn this thing it tall"... anyway, this brings me to my question. How much ventalation space do I need above my 806? I have read alot about heat problems with the x05 series and alot speculation about the x06 line, but have not seen much feedback from actual x06 owners. It the heat issue still a problem, and is it actually a 'problem'. Also, are you runing an external fan solution.

Hi jopela congrats on the new purchase.

I would want at least 3-4 inches above it for good venalation. If you don't have that much room there are quite a few good fan solutions out there.

This one from parts express only needs 1 inch above the component. It is the video processors on these that gets warm. The 806 does not use the REON which gets much warmer.

So in theory, if you didn't pass a video signal through these - the heat wouldn't be an issue? I guess I had thought it was the amp sections that produced the heat.

Is the the same for the 805 as well?

I don't know if that would be the case because it is still powered up so there would be some heat. I do notice that when I am doing passthrough with a BR that it does not "seem" as warm as when I am scaling SD material. I have checked it a number of times but I have not measured it.

According to their site there are very little changes in the 805/806 but the 805 is heavier.

One thing to note is I have the REON which the 805/806 does not and it gets much warmer than the processor in these models so it may not be as much of an issue.

I just now read that the 806 does not employ the XT version of Audyssey.

This is reason enough for me to go with the 805 rather than 806. No brainer IMO. I am a fan.

well i bought my 806 2 weeks ago. so far no problems i am giving it probably 5"s above and 2"s on each side and no heat problems at all, and i have the cabinet closed with glass. i have watched 2 straight BD DVD's and it heated up as much as my HK 347 would. so its not really that big an issue. just protect it from dust as the silicone components are very hard to clean. and heat up more if dirty.
so how do you like it i love mine.

No heat problem yet

I just purchased the 806 three weeks ago. I've watched 2 Blueray movies in a row and noticed no extra heat problem. I've also run it for about 4 hours straight listening to music in stereo mode with no noticable heat problem. My unit sits in a custom home made cabinet with no glass doors and an open back. I have about 2 inches clearance on each side and 4 inches clearance on top. This unit replaces a 25 year old NEC A/V receiver and I am thrilled with its performance. I have it hooked up to a Yamaha CDC-697 cd player, Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blueray, and Panasonic TH50PZ800U. It is set up as 5.1 system with Monster THX Select speaker system; 2-SL200 towers, a SL200 center speaker, 2- SL100 dipole surrounds and a SL200 subwoofer.
