Calling all Denon owners...

Ok this may sound like a newbie question, ok it IS, but just know I am no newbie even though I sure act like one. My teacher told me there is no such thing as a dumb question, and I didn't ride the short bus to school even though I am from Texas. (sorry fellow Texans) :( I have also learned that if I ask for directions, I get to my destination sooner than if I didn't do so.

Anyway, my soon to be 3 year old daughter enjoys touching every button on my 3803 (frankly, who doesn't enjoy randomly pushing buttons on their receiver, the manufacturer made the buttons to be pushed, right? .* But it is now to the point now where my receiver is so confused, that it thinks I am crying wolf when I try to go into system setup to play with my speaker settings.

Before you respond - yes, my connections are fine, no, setup lock is not the reason I cannot get into system setup, yes, the remote is set to "amp" when I push the setup button, and, yes, the unit is in fine working condition.

My question is - other than unplugging the unit for several minutes - is there some way to restore factory defaults so that I may get into system setup again?

*please refrain from making sarcastic comments, as that is solely my gift, nay, my responsibility to you, my fellow Audioholics (case in point).

Have you searched your owner's manual? I think most receivers have a "restore factory defaults" menu option.

1. Switch off the receiver, then remove the power cord from the wall outlet.
2. While holding down the Zone 2 & the Pure Direct buttons on the front of the receiver, plug the receiver's power cord back into the wall outlet, but keep holding down the two buttons!
3. Check that the entire display is flashing in about 1 second intervals, then release the two buttons you're still holding down.

If this fails, repeat again. This will reset EVERYTHING to the factory default settings.

Edit: Ah, there have been a couple replies since I started my post, I'm slow today; FWIW, this info I posted can be found in the AVR-3803 owner's manual on page 70.

Strangely, I have been able to reset defaults, but STILL cannot get into setup mode. Any other ideas before I email Denon for support? Strange!!!!

Will do. I actually love challenges like this because, however painful the learning process can be, one always comes out of it with more knowledge about the product, and similar products in general.

I will keep all posted on the outcome. Thanks to all who have offered their assistance.

My prediction is that I have overlooked something really trivial, but who knows, the remote itself may be faulty, although I doubt it!

I just got off the phone with Denon, and our conclusion is that, since the remote works fine in every other way, it may be that the setup button is toast. Believe it or not, he actually gave me a model number and part number for replacement remote which would work on the 3803. AND THEN, he actually recommended that I try ebay for the best deal on the remote, but for good measure he also gave me the link to Denon for a replacement too.

Now that's what I call customer service!

There are a few more things I will try at home tonight before I buy a new remote. But if I have to shell out a mere $40 for a new remote, and if this would really fix the issue, then I am fine with that.

What is the plan to keep the curtain climber from continuing to push the buttons? My av rack is about 5 feet tall, the top shelf would be out of most three year olds reach........:)

My first pair of "good" speakers were Infinity SM122's. The first Christmas my two neices, 2 and 3, were old enough to walk/run about it took five minutes to have all the dust covers on the drivers pushed in!:mad::)

Lol. I think I might try one of those invisible electric fences. Hey they work on dogs!

She also pushed in the driver covers on my pioneers. I had to use a vaccum cleaner to pull them back out (carefully).

The remote gods are shining upon me!!!

After a nagging notion that my remote could be faulty, I took the plunge and disassembled it. I told you guys I like a challenge. Well anyway, after some poking and prodding, and a VERY small dab of solder, I got that damn system setup button to work *trumpets trumpeting!!!*

Daddy is very happy now that I was able to get into system setup and tweak my crossovers and surround settings.

Daddy will sleep well tonight, if only for tonight.:)

Thanks to all who assisted me in my mini-journey.

Stay tuned in a couple weeks when we tackle Operation New Badass Subwoofer installation!

As always, I love you guys (and no - not in THAT way)
