Cadence XSub CS issues

About a month ago I noticed a small hum coming from my new Xsub. I called them and they said "no problem". They had me send the amp to them and they would take a look. A week later, I called to check the progress. They said they didn't know what was wrong with it but were going to send me a new one. I said great ... when is it shipping? ... They said "Today".

A week later ... nothing. I call back and they say "yes, we are going to give you a new one. It's shipping today.

A week later ... nothing. I call back and they say "yes, we are going to give you a new one. It's shipping today.

A week later ... (Today) I call back and they say "yes, we are going to give you a new one. It's shipping today.

Well I actually it shipped on Monday and I received it today. I can tell by looking at it that it's NOT new. The finish is worn around the screw holes. This amp has been installed before.

So whatever ... I'll hook it up anyway. But now this piece of junk hums worse the the one I sent to them.

/sigh

I thought Cadence was great when they said they were going to give me a new amp ... but since that first call their service has really been a let down.

Has anyone else dealt with CS at Cadence?

I am going to call and pitch a ***** in the morning.

Talk to Roy, not Joe and you'll probably get the straight story. If you read any of my posts concerning the hum issue and returns on AVS, you know that I also had some problems. I decided that it wasn't that big a deal, it wasn't noticeable during playback. I also noticed that if you kept the unit on, it would go away. I gave mine to my sons and neither have had a problem in their homes.

Have you tried the cheater plug solution? BTW there is no excause for getting jerked around by Cadence. I would probably kick and scream at them then send the darned thing back and buy from another vendor. Actually you have been incredibly patient, more so than I would have been.

I know the hum is in the amp. It wasn't there when I first hooked up the system. And there was no hum in the sub that I have been using while my Xsub has been in for repair.

The first amp that I sent back I really could have lived with. It was a slight hum that I could only hear when the room was quiet. It seems to only come from the amp and not the speaker. But it was a new sub and I didnt think I should have to live with a hum.

The piece of junk that they sent me as "new" hums so loud that you cant hear any bass even coming out of the amp. The amp is activating the driver all the time.

I will be giving them a piece of my mind in the morning. Im really just upset because my stack of movies to be watched is growing and growing and I just wont sit down and watch King Kong or Narnia without a subwoofer ;)

They just sent me a new one last week. I had waited 3 weeks but didn't bug them because of the previous service. Joe told me (when I emailed and reminded him again) he was waiting on a shipment of new amplifiers. They may have given up waiting on that shipment, and sent you a refurbished one." I'm sure they'll swap that one out for a new one. I think I paid $8 shipping to their place. Make sure you get insurance in case it gets lost. It's a good amp, probably $150 or more to buy a similar one at PE.

Tell Joe you spoke to Buckeyefan (Todd) about the issue, and that I said Joe would take care of you. They'll eventually make it right. I'm not sure why they sent you an older unit.

Ok, why doesn't Cadence get their act together and just FIX the DAMN AMP and SOLVE these problems once and for all. Almost every Xsub has the hum.

UPDATE: I just talked with Joe at Cadence and they are sending me a brand new sub - complete. And a return service label to send the old sub back.

So far so good.

Because it isn't their amp design... It is an OEM amp and they don't have control over the QC of the amps, and it is my understanding that the subs are already assembled when they get them. So what they need is some QC of the finished subs before they ship them to customers. I've seen the inside of these subs, and the most expensive thing in there is the amp.

The driver is really not that bad, and the construction of the cabinet is decent. You have to remember, this is a $230 subwoofer. ($179 when I purchased it). It's hard to find a decent 12" subwoofer in this pricerange - something that has some weight to it.

UPDATE - Received brand new Xsub yesterday. It came complete with quiet hum that my first unit had. I contacted Joe and he offered to give me a full refund. I told him I would like to keep it for a day or so and see if I could live with it.

I understand that I wont get a $1000 sub for $250 but I'm not sure any sub for any price should come with the hum issue that the Xsub seems to have.

While I may keep this one, I think I would recomend that anyone considering buying one to save a bit longer and get something a bit better.

I am again going to bring up the cheater plug as a possible solution. For my Hsu VTF 2 it's been the answer to a hum in the two places I have lived since getting it five years ago. It was the solution recommended by Hsu and works fine. Don't know if it will work for you but maybe it's worth a try.

This isn't going to help, but since I experienced the hum similarly and decided to live with it, after a couple of months the hum became intermitent. After I gave the subs away, they hum never occurred in my son's homes. I've since had one back here for a shootout...no hum.

Methost, I understand your disappointment. If you keep it, enjoy it for it's output and see if, like me, it will just go away.

I have decided to send the Xsub back. The found that I just couldn't live with that hum.

So what now? I have about $250 for a sub. Should I get the H100? Or should I scrape up a little more and step up a bracket? I am 90%HT to 10% Music. Is there anything in the $400 range that is WORLDS above the H100 in terms of home theater base?

As always, your opinions are important to me.
