Does anyone know if the new 2 way CableCARDs that will be coming out in 1-2 yrs will be backward compatable with the current one way slots in certain Plasma TV/s.

Also... when then cable coaxial feed is input to a Denon receiver with HDMI out, will it pass the "scrambled" signal to the plasma TV where the CableCARD will decode at the TV tuner stage?

I'm in the market for a 42" Plasma and considering the Panny 42 500u and like the idea of no cable box.

Thank you,
AV newby (I'm new to this list and the whole AV thing).

1. No, current CableCard spec. to my understanding is not compatible with the 2-way cards coming out. Your set will always only allow 1-way CableCard.

2. You don't run coaxial from the wall into any receiver, you run it directly into the TV or a cable box. From the cable box you run video out to the TV and audio to the receiver (or video to the receiver then to the TV). If you are using a TV w/CableCard, then you run audio out of the TV to your receiver.

Panasonic CableCARD 2-way optional modules

Thank you for the reply.

Anyone have a clue if Panasonic will have optional CableCARD modules for their commercial line (eg: TH-42PHD8UK).

Thank you
