CABLE DIRECT TO TV or INTO RECEIVER?

I have 3 CRTs ( 2 with component inputs, 1 with Scart )

Setup 1.
Scart TV (Panasonic 2003 34'' W/Sc 100Hz scan)
Receiver: Onkyo 574 7.1ch (2007-8?)

Connecting:
Topfield TF4000 SD STB (scart)
LG Dual DVD/VCR (component- coax) 2007?

Setup 2.
Component TV (Philips 2004 W/Sc 100Hz)
Receiver: Onkyo 503 7.1ch (2005-6??)

Connecting
Topfield TF5000 SD PVRt (scart)
Onkyo Super Audio DV SP502 (2007-8?) (component-optical)

My questions are.

A)System 1.

Should I connect the STB (scart) directly to the TV (scart)
DVD/VCR (component) to TV (scart)

- or into the receiver first?

B) PVR (scart) into TV (component)
DVD (component) into TV (component)

- or into receiver first?

I am hoping there is a general consensus on this rather than it be suggested to try it out...as I would prefer to avoid paying out for quality cables to find out that directly into the TV was just as good or possibly better?
The downside of going direct is that the video functions are not used in the receiver.

Any advice on this would be appreciated. I have had a look around and haven't found much useful info on this. I imagined it to be a common query.

Thanks in advance - Cheers

In general is handier to run everything via the receiver. Your best connection is component. SCART is a low quality connection, on the same level as composite. To add to that the connectors are misbegotten and fall out.

The SCART is not a common query, as fortunately we don't have it in North America.

scart

Thanks for that.

The Topfield STB and PVR only have scart or S-video, or one video + L&R Audio connectors. The 21 pins at least have R G B video connectors so I figure that is preferable to a single one. Silly me didn't check the connections on the TV as it had component connections as well as scart in it's description on eBay.
As well as being more convenient, is there any difference in quality of picture by going through the receiver circuitry?
I'm in Australia, and there is some scart CRT's (circa 2003) going around here probably due to component not being available on models chosen at the time?

Although I don't have the latest gear, I want to get the best out of what I have for the time being.

Cheers and thanks

There will be no difference in picture quality whether you go trough the receiver or not, just convenience.
