Buzzing From Subwoofer

Well, I've grounded it and I can still discharge on it. I'm starting to think there is an issue with the sub's amplifier or the cable.
Well if you get a discharge touching it and your chassis are now at ground potential, then the discharge is coming form you. You are building up static charge as you walk on your carpet and get out of your chair etc. If your equipment cases are at ground and connected to ground, they can not shock you, but you can release a static charge through them to ground.

Do you still get the buzz now you have placed a ground?

Yep, which leads to a faulty sub amp. It's probably not the cable is it?

Yes, it does point to the sub amp, however check the cable. Put your multimeter onto the lowest ohms scale and calibrate it, so that it is reading on the max when the probes are open circuit. Then touch them together and calibrate for 0 ohms. This is assuming your meter has a calibration procedure.

Now remove your sub cable and put the meter probes on the live ends. It should read 0 ohms or very close to zero. Then do the same for the shield. If that checks out it is likely service time, or replacement time for the sub.

I don't have a calibration mode on here. I hope I'm doing this right but I get a reading on 0 ohms on both. I'll be calling Dayton today as the sub should still be under warranty.

Thanks for all your help man!

You did it correctly. It has to be an issue with the sub. Good luck!
