Buzz/hum in speakers

Hi,

I had 2 main speakers and 2 surround speakers connected to an amp and I just disconnected the surround speakers since they're taking up too much space. Once I did that, though, the main speakers started buzzing. Everything was fine before. It's plugged into the same place (power bar) and I checked to make sure the audio cables were tight in case they got loosened when I was disconnecting the surround speakers. I don't understand why the main speakers are buzzing all of a sudden, and what could have happened with disconnecting the surround speakers to make them do that. Could it be a problem with the amp, the speakers, or the cables? I don't think it's a ground loop because it wasn't doing that until I disconnected the surround speakers.

Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Neither speakers or speaker cables cause hum.

It's something with the amp.

Did you do anything else?
What kind of system are we talking about here?
Does the hum go away when you reconnect te surrounds?

Mystery

Thanks for your reply.

I started playing some music and then it went away on its own. Is it possible that I had them too close together? The system is a Harmon/Kardon amp with two big 3.5' speakers. What can I do to prevent this in the future?

Haha, thanks! I just hope that was it, and it's not something else :)

So do I because from what you've given us to work with, I/we cannot even fathom a guess as to what it might have been.
