buying new speakers

In the middle of a remodel and got the green light for some new speakers. I've always run Klipsch in the past and kind of want to try something new. Here's my equipment, Klipsch kg 3.5's, rc52ii, and ss1 surrounds. Adcom 2535 amp running through a yamaha rxv-659. I also have a Hsu vtf-2 sub. I used to have an Aragon 2004 mkii that ran the mains but it died. So I bridge 2 of the adcom channels and run 200 to the center and 60x2 for the mains and let the receiver power the surrounds. I bought the kg 3.5's when I was 19 and I'm 35 now. So they've been around the world and back. I like a lively crisp sound so i don't want anything too dull. I don't mind something softer on top as the Klipsch's are pretty much at the end of that spectrum, but I don't want anything too muted. Budget is about $1000 for the 5 speaker set. I've just about narrowed it down to the Hsu hb-1's or the emotiva x-ref 5.2 setup. I like the x-ref's because I can get a tower, which I would prefer for the mains. They are 4 ohm, but I think I'd be ok. The receiver would just be powering the surrounds and the adcom should be fine. But I think the Hsu's would be more dynamic. I used to not care so much about ht and more about music, but now I have a wife, a 7 yr old, and a 3 yr old, so I don't get to jam out like I used to!!! In reality, I think the system used mostly for watching tv. I still want it to shine for music though. I looked at the arx line, but I'm not I like them. Any thoughts?

I don't think either system will be as crisp and lively as your Klipsch. The Hsu speakers sound nice but are pretty mellow for horn-loaded tweeters. They handle high volumes very well though. You might take a look at Klipschs Reference series, maybe something like the RB-61s. I don't think they would match the KGs for sizzling hot treble, but they would have a hotter top end and probably more dynamic range then the Hsu or Emotiva speakers. You might take a look at the Infinity Primus series as well, the p363s have very good dynamic range for its price, I would guess far better than the Emotivas anyway.

Well, here's the thing. I want to try something new. Plus, my wife doesn't particularly like the sound of the Klipsch. She doesn't like the sibilance and harshness. So I'm thinking she may like something on the more neutral side. I just don't want to go too far in the other direction. I want detail and sound stage, as well as some dynamics and ability to play loud....I still like my volume!! Sounds like maybe the hsu's over the x-ref? What do those x-refs sound like anyway?
