I am planning on buying a HK AVR 3600 receiver for 5.1 setup. Does any one have an idea how they sound. I will hooking up this with satellite speakers.

Thanks

Which speakers did you buy? Your speakers are going to make the biggest difference as to what your system sounds like. Most A/V receivers are not going to make much difference unless you use different sound fields(programs) that are on your receiver

Do you need small speakers?

Or is it a budget limit?

That's a 780 dollar top of the line receiver for a 420 dollar bottom of the line HTIB system. Of course the receiver is amazing but on my system it would be overkill and my speakers are much better than the ones in your package.

Do you like Infinity speakers?

Are you open to buying a great home theater system?

If you must have small speakers I suggest you pair the following for much higher sound quality.

with this

If it's a bit much for your budget then you can go down to this.

Those are the top small speakers on the market, but they still aren't as good as a full blown system.

If you interested in that check out speakers from ascend acoustics and subs from SVS.

Don't sell yourself short. I'd get a nice 7.1 receiver and a pair of great speakers. Then build on that. You end up with an amazing setup that way and get to spread out the euphoria of a new setup.

I'm not an expert but I've heard good things about the Orb speakers if you need a small speaker as well, just food for thought. Disclaimer: I have never heard them and don't know how they compare to the others but they are WAF design.

Hi lisberian,

I need small speakers and would be interested in the infinity speakers. Are there any model you can suggest.

Also i am looking at buying a whole set like speakers and sub from as one set i.e one company instead of doing an mix and match.

Thanks

The best sets of small speakers I've heard and own are the KEF sets
I linked the best price on the net earlier in the post for the 2000 series and 3000 series.

I use the 2000 series in my setup and they are amazing speakers for their size. The Cube sub I think is better than the flying saucer in the 3000 series. But I can't deny the 3000 series sub is perfect for aesthetics.

is a video review of the 3000 series. They were the editors choice when they came out and speakers don't really change much from year to year.

Matching receiver brands with speaker brands isn't necessary and will net you a bad design in most cases.

The above systems is by no means on par with the KEF sets, but is still a decent package. For 1000 dollars AH sells a package with a yamaha receiver those speakers and a blu-ray player. They include a 3 year warranty in all their purchases so it might be a nice deal.

If you want a harman kardon receiver use their ebay store(full warranty and steep discounts)

Ignore specs for the most part they are worthless. Especially at your price point.

Harman receiver have as many watts as any other receiver at their price point.

Some Best Buys and Fry's carry the Infinity TSS-1200 just don't buy anything there. The prices are way too high. The speakers have great drivers, but the enclosures leave much too be desired.

The KEF speakers are probably better. But the TSS set's are a little cheaper.

Remember receivers should be generally 20 % of a budget because they have very little effect on actual sound.
