I am buying a sub for my RTi8 Polk speakers. They are offering me the Polk PsW 404 but I understand that Polk is no good in subs. I have another option: Velodyne.
What do you think?

I have a Yamaha RX-V2500 reciever.

I can verify the PSW404 is not all that good, they were offering a free sub when I got my RTi8's and I upgarded to the 404. It's not horrible and works fairly well for music but I would not recommend it for home theater usuage as it has very little output under 30hz. Velodyne makes better sounding subs than Polk. If I were you I would get the sub online from the likes of SVS, HSU or find a deal on audiogon. I picked up a JBL S120PII for 330 shipped off EBAY and it kicked the snot out of the 404.

Myself and the other home audio guy at my store both have the Polk PSW505 and we love it! Of course we get them a lot cheaper so there are probably better buys out there, but I wanted to throw in my .02 and take one for Polk. :D

If you choose Velodyne, search the web. I saw the DPS-12 which is $549.00 at Circuit City on the web for arount $350 shipped.

If you can afford it have a look at some servo-controlled subs. Velodyne have a few, Paradigm etc.

cheers:)

love Polk, but velodyne for the sub

Just a Polk Speaker fan giving my vote for the Velodyne Subwoofer. Just read my system in my signature! I listened to a number of subs at brick n mortar shops, and I was thoroughly impressed with Velodyne, much more so than Polk as far as subwoofers go.
