Thanks in advance for reading and posting! I am posting for some advice on Audio for my current set up. I mostly watch movies, tv, and sports. I will be buying a blu-ray player this year. I do not want any wires for rear speakers. My budget: $1500 for speakers and receiver

My current setup:
TV: Sony KDS 55A 20-20
Toshiba A30 HDDVD
Nintendo Wii
direct Tv: HD service

you cannot have no wires for speakers... you will either have speaker wire or power cords. I would guess power would be harder as you will need an outlet close by.

Is the 1500 in US funds?

I think he/she just didn't word it too well and actually meant that they already have cables for the speakers and thus doesn't need to include the price of those in their total....maybe I'm wrong though! :D

Sorry. I was told (by another person who doesn't know much) that you can use wireless speakers for the rear. I had never heard of this and didnt really believe it. That said- If rears can only have wires...then I would like your advice on a system without rear speakers. Power cords are not a problem...just running speaker wires in this room is not an option.

I have seen soundbars advertised and figured that a soundbar is an upgrade over my current sound (tv). My initial thoughts are a receiver, front speakers and a sub?.... I do not know how many speakers to get, or which ones.

Budget is in US $

Wireless speakers would need power cords though as they have built in amps. There are also many options for speaker cables including flat ones that easy hide behind baseboard. I am sure that someone on here would have a link for you. For speakers and such someone else should be able to chime in.

A good 2.1 system to start would be nice though. (2 speakers, 1 sub)

I have read that there are quality sound bars out there but I am not sure which ones to recommend.

Good luck.

Most wireless systems are very weak. A good amplifier ways a lot so the wireless receiver would have to weigh a lot. As you can imagine this defeats the purpose of wireless.

Soundbars are for simulated surround sound and are actually pretty decent. They can be a good option for those that just simply can't run wires. KEF has a 5.2 series that does simulated surround sound from 2 speakers I believe. They make very good speakers and I imagine it would be very good for your application. They also have a very expensive wireless kit, but it still is very weak for power IMO.
