Hi,

Is there any build difference between the two series? I know the RX includes their flaghip models but the HTR series sure specs out well. I appreciate any input.

Thanks,

I am not certain, but maybe a HTR owner can chime in. My guess is China(HTR)/Japan(RX).

Fair labor in Japan. More $ to produce.

I understand that the HTR line is for the Big Box (Best Buy, Circuit City) distribution and the RX series is for the custom / enthusiast shops with slightly better features. I thoroughly compared the RX-V659 and HTR-5960 and found after reading all that I could that they were basically the same receiver as far as power, build quality, sound processing, etc. The only difference was that the RX-V659 had dedicated zone 2 controls on the front panel and the HTR-5960 does not. I ended up with the HTR model because it was cheaper online than the RX series.

Would it be too much to ask for you to look on the back of your receiver to see where it was made?

I think the RX line just has more bells and whistles than the HTR line. IMO they also look better than the HTRs, but I don't know if that would justify spending an extra couple hundred bucks. :)

I would pay extra for my Tacoma to be made in Japan. Didn't have that option.

The Yamaha site answers this question in their FAQ.

Good find. Aside the obvious cosmetic differences and Guiria's "Big Box" comment, here is what Yamaha says is the only difference:

The amplifiers in the HTR and RX-V units are identical but rated differently to comply with the accepted measurement standards of their respective channels of distribution... The RX-V line has the power amplifiers rated from 20-20000 Hz. The HTR line has the power amplifiers rated at 1000 Hz. Both lines can reproduce the full frequency response of 20-20000 Hz.

The HTR-5890 is made in Malaysia.

The only real difference I think is that with the high models of the RX series offer a Multi-zone remote and the regular remote in the same package, where the HTR series does not offer the secondary remote.

The only receiver that is specified on the Yamaha as being manufactured anywhere is the RX-Z9 (Japan). The other models don't have it stamped on the rear were it was manufactured. Or they blocked it out. Some of the pictures don't even show the input power.
