Budget Bookshelf Speakers:

H

Hybrid4G

Audiophyte
Budget: $250.00 (or less)

Current Setup:

The Source: Windows Media Player/Foobar 2k

The Processing: TerraTec EWX 2496 Sound Card

The Cables: KnuKonceptz Twisted Pair RCA

The Amplification: Marantz 2220B Stereophonic Receiver

While not truly a home theater setup, I am still looking for a set of efficient bookshelf speakers to complete my computer stereo system (trying to work with what I have). I believe the old school reciever is rated at 20x2 RMS

I actually had this system hooked to to a pair of Sennheiser HD-580 Headphones and was very impressed with the result.

However, gone are the headphones, and now I need to find some speakers! The rig is currently hooked to some random AIWA bookshelfs (free!) and I am looking for better quality. :)

Considering:

Fluance SX-6
SVS SBS-01

Since I have not heard any of these speakers, I am not sure on which direction to take. Also, this setup will be without a subwoofer for now as I cannot play the system too loud cause it wakes people up

Room is 20x10...don't have to fill the entire room with sound since I sit right next to the PC...and thats all I got. First post on these forums...just looking to get some information :D

EDIT: Magnetic shielding is a must as well.

Check out the Onix X-LS from av123.com. See review on audioholics. I'm not 100% sure they are magnetically shielded, but that should be easy to figure out.

I feel they will outclass the two you were considering, and I have heard fluance speakers. the X-LS are in a another league.

There is no getting around auditioning every $250 sold in your area. First thing you will notice is that a speaker recommended here sounds awful to you. The reverse will be true as well. Local auditioning is the first and most important step in speaker selection. This does not mean ID purchasing is bad, it means that local auditioning will provide a foundation enableing you to get what sounds best to your ears, Be it locally or from one of the ID vendors.

$200, I don't think you could go wrong with the X-LS.
