I deleted and edited that response because I didnt want to knock Klipsch subs(not to mention break forum rules). When I first read my post, I thought it looked really bad because Klipsch does make a quality product.
I think Klipsch make a well made musical sub that has a big following of music lovers everywhere. When it comes to movie applications, the PB12-Plus2 is in a different league. I misspoke when I said Klipsch wasnt very good, and that's why I deleted the message. I expecially didnt want to knock Wescotts subwoofer of choice. So for that.... I apologize.
No need to apologize. The RSW15 was not my first choice either, but it was not as poor a performer as some people think either. The passive radiator design eliminates chuffing, which is my biggest complaint of most poorly designed subs. It is also very small, but still performs admirably down to 24Hz before it drops off. Lastly, it is far more attractive than most black tube designs which was my wife's primary concern (she wanted a matched system in cherry, which also eliminated JBL at this price point).
Next chance you get to actually listen to an RSW15, I think you would be pleasantly surprised. As you alluded to, it has one of the flattest frequency responses between 30 and 70Hz of any non position feed back subwoofer and makes it great for music. The amp is FTC rated, which is rare for subs, at 650 watts continuous and 2400 watts peak!
Just to give you a little better idea of its performance, it rattles a 2000lb quartz countertop 38 feet away while sitting on a floor that is completely insulated and floated from the rest of the house. This room is open to 11,552 cubic feet of additional open space!
I really wanted a Velodyne DD 18 but it was not to be.
