I don't know about anybody else but I like being alone while doing so.
Too...many...jokes... :)

Now I'm thinking that I should order the DVD-A. I really like the album. Maybe it's time to buy my first DVD-A. Oh, wait. I'd need to hook up the five analog audio cables on the back of the DVD player up to my receiver. Uggg. Well, there goes that dream.

Six cables is what it takes. But who's counting? I have it in my head that DVD-A is better than SACD but assumed that you couldn't get a title in both. Being able to play it in the car is a bonus and I didn't find the DVD-A version anywhere so SACD it is.

Am I to understand that your player will play DVD-A? I can't imagine six cables stopping you from doing anything. What gives?

Six cables? Who hooks up the subwoofer line? Bass is overrated. Okay, yeah...I miscounted.

I was thinking DVD-A because my player can handle it and because earlier posts mentioned it coming out on that format. I didn't look too hard, but I didn't find it on DVD-A, either.

I'm glad that you're enjoying your SACD version of it. It really is a great album.

Brothers in Arms remains one of my favorite rock CDs to listen to simply b/c of the excellent sound quality and lack of compression.

I didn't realize they released it on SACD. I assume its 5.1?

Is the sound quality a worthy upgrade to the CD? If so, I will order one today and use it as reference material.

Yes. Also it can be played in 2 channel SACD and has what the other posters refered to as a CD layer so it can be played in the car.

I haven't fairly compared them fairly but I would think so and beyond that I would think the difference would be more dramatic on your system than mine.

Thanks Alex, for getting this SACD back on my radar.

Also thanks Gene for the info regarding "the excellent sound quality and lack of compression."

I've been buying concert DVD's because I won't buy a CD unless I know it's been recorded properly.

Most rock CDs today sound like crap. An old one like Brothers in Arms is IMO a golden CD since they are so rare to find. It is immediately obvious when you have to crank up the master volume to get it to play loud and this is the one CD I had issues with volume scaling on the new Denon AVP-A1HDCI when using Audyssey with PLIIx Music Mode. I believe I noted this in the review.

Gene,

I would really like to hear your take on this SACD. I've been monkeying (haha) around with my gear a little too much. The way my system stands, I prefer SACD Stereo EQ'ed but that might be due to a couple of mistakes I made the last time I calibrated the set up.
I didn't see any mention of this CD in your review of the Denon AVP-A1HDCI.

Thanks,
Alex

This is one of my favorite SACD discs, just listened to it today to test out my Audyssey calibration

I bought my Dad a copy a while back, the only hi-rez disc he owns and probably will ever own... hehe.

This is one of my top 5 favorites of all time (especially the multi-channel recording) If you like this one, get Ragpicker's Dream, Sailing to Philadelphia, and Shangri-La in multi-channel. The'll make you glad you invested in good audio

I really like this CD. Maybe I'll just have to get that new Oppo when it comes out...
