Broken down Sony DE845

This past week my sony receiver died on me.
I was watching a movie when "click", the sound stopped. I tried switching between the other inputs, but no go.
The receiver powers on like it always did, front screen lights, etc.
Except that there used to be a final "click" a few seconds after power on that would trigger the sound to the speakers. It's no longer there.

I've had the receiver sitting unplugged for a couple of days already.
Is there a good starting point for debugging?

This would be my first time cracking a component like this open.
ANy ideas?

I would start by looking for any fuses that may be blown. Then probably look to see if the capacitors are leaking or bulging. After these checks, there is really not much you can do without a schematic diagram of the unit unless you can plainly see a fried resistor or diode or the like.

was there any smoke/smell when it went down ? if not, it's likely a fuse or minibreaker.
