Interesting list, thanks! Three members of the band Sha Na Na, got advanced degrees! Maybe someone in the music recording business told them "don't quit your dayjob" or "stay in school" :).

Speaking of getting advice from entertainment industry professionals: I was watching on Critical Drinker Youtube video on James Bond Yesterday and learned a new (for me) interesting fact:
Apparently, after Sean Connery left the 007 role after 1967 You only Live Twice, mostly unknown Australian model George Lazenby was hired to be next Bond after one of the producers met Lazenby in the same barbershop.
However, after making a single bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), Lazenby declined to act in any further bond movies. From Wiki:" "Although Lazenby had been offered a contract for seven movies, his agent, Ronan O'Rahilly, convinced him that the secret agent would be archaic in the liberated 1970s, and as a result, he left the series after the release of On Her Majesty's Secret Service in 1969.[13] After this role Lazenby is claimed to have begun studying drama at Durham University's College of the Venerable Bede.[dubiousdiscuss] though this was not reported on at the time. "

Speaking of the worst advice ever.

George Frayne, aka Commander Cody, pianist and vocalist of Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, had a MA degree in Sculpture and Painting from the U of Michigan. He taught classes in art at the U of Michigan and U of Wisconsin (Oshkosh), published books of his work, and exhibited at various art shows and galleries.

He used to joke that he was the only rock musician who actually finished art school. Frayne died last September, at age 77.

I've always been a fan of Bryan Holland (The Offspring) who recently got his PhD in Molecular Biology. Just your normal punk band member.

I knew about May, but not some of the others....three of the Sha Na Na guys is a bit surprising!

Had the pleasure of doing some work for Commander Cody in the early 70s, did not know about his art background, thanks @Swerd ...we had to register some gear with Customs and they (several members of the band) picked me up in a van at my office and managed to light up several joints in the mile and a half or so over to Customs. I was so nervous....but they were kinda infectious when it came to having a good time....don't worry about it! LOL I did get some stinkeye from the inspector as he signed off on it....

Did Mick Jagger actually get his degree? I'm pretty sure he dropped out of the London School of Economics before graduation....did they give him one honorarily later?
I didn't see Mic Jagger on that list.

I alway thought he graduated but I may be wrong. Nevertheless, it takes top marks even to get into that school. Even if he did drop out, he made the right decision!! :p

The way I remember it is he was a good student when he put his effort in, and at the beginning didn't, then dropped out when the band starting getting good gigs, and came back to school for a while after, then, when the first good record contract was done, he was gone again...

Huge Offspring fan. Was listening to Smash yesterday actually.

I didn't know he was that educated. Always interesting to see how accomplished some of these people are outside of what we know them for.

This isn't quite the same, but the story of Jason Everman is rather interesting:

>>>The mind-blowing journey of Jason Everman took him from being the guy who got kicked out of both Nirvana and Soundgarden to U.S. Army Special Forces to Columbia University philosophy grad.<<<
