I've noticed a lot of us seem to have brand bias, in other words when all things are relatively equal they tend to stick to one brand or another. It got me to wondering which brand do you tend to prefer most often?

I think brand bias is developed over years of experience with a particular brand. I like Onkyo simply because I've had quite a few of them over the years and have never had a single problem with any of them.

In terms of sound quality, the major players are all pretty similar in their offerings. It comes down to features, price point, and ease of use and we tend to stick with what we know.

Denon :)

Love my AVR-1705....however, for my next receiver I may try out a Yammie.

I went Marantz because I own Marantz, got a great deal on it, and it sounds fantastic. Sometimes I get jealous of the other guys with their auto calibration and what nots, but I'd never use 90% of those features anyway. The only missing feature I'd like to have is an internal EQ. Oh yeah, and the remote kicks butt.

Tough Call

I'll take a free one from any of these brands. They all have quality products. I selected Yamaha but I own both a Yamaha and a Pioneer and like both of them. The Yamaha is older, but a few models up from the Pioneer so I guess that's why I went that way. I won't comment on the Technics "surround sound" receiver I have in the bedroom. Whatever happend to them? Did Panasonic disolve that unit?

How come Kenwood isn't on there
How about cause of this

It's been like that for many many moons...

If they can't even get a website up and running, how are they going to make home theater products that compete? I'm hoping I'm wrong on this and they really blow everyone's socks off someday - would be a pleasant surprise.

What happened with Kenwood anyway? I remember being younger and Kenwood was "the thing" to get... did they just go downhill or was it youthful ignorance?

As far as I'm concerned, they're much more oriented onto the audio car systems, where they seem to be quite strongs ones.
You're right, Kenwood (as Akai, Teac, Technics...), used to be "the thing"!

I have a Kenwood 2 ch receiver that is bout 6 or 7 years old and it'll still crank some sound out when I hook it up to listen to something out.

Kenwood is still pretty big in the Car Audio world. I couldn't be happier with my Excelon KDC-X789 with 24bit Burr-Brown DACs.

As far as receivers go, I'm pretty loyal to Pioneer because of my good experiences with them so far, but I'd jump on a Harmon Kardon in a second given half a chance.

Where's the Rotel?
It certainly isn't an end-all list, just the more commonly mentioned ones in this forum at least. That's why ya need to vote for "other". ;)

I guess I'm very firmly in the other camp. I have never owned a receiver and the way things look I never will. IMHO most if not all receivers do not have the kind of current reserves I prefer for my rig. By the way my rig is listed in how much is your system worth. I have not posted a dollar value as much of my gear is modified by yours truly. I really have no preference for any specific brand. I look for features reliability and bang for the buck. I am stuck on panel speakers. My ES panels are something I can't imagine replacing.

I'm a Mcintosh man, myself, at least when I can afford it! I also own a Denon and like it pretty well. My next HT rcvr may be a Yamaha.

I didn't vote because I honestly don't have a preference for what I like. My first receiver (2 channel) was a Yammy and most of my equipment (2 channel) has been Pioneer. I've liked and have had good luck with both (except the Yammy died in a shipping accident) but I don't know that I'd HAVE to get either when I finally make my purchase. Other factors, such as price and features are more important.

Now if you had asked what brands I WOULDN'T consider, well, that's a whole nuther issue. ;)

I chose Pioneer, because I currently own one and am very happy. I believe that their mid-fi receivers are as good as what's out there, but others offer more high end pieces not to mention seperates. Therefore, my choice reflects the pretty narrow criteria I had for my most recent purchase - receiver less than 1 grand, beefy amp section, good specs, and bells and whistles that lean more toward movies without compromising sound quality.

However, if cost were no object and I were shopping again there is a very good chance I wouldn't stick with Pioneer.

If I had to pick my preference it would be Yamaha.

I think they offer the most value for the features/performance within the receiver market space. Consumers are definitely benefiting from the companies large distribution channel (worldwide).

Most of the brands above offer vary similar products that will satisfy most user needs.

Just a note, I have an Harman Kardon only for the fact that I got it for half price for what they retail in Canada. It's a good product but in Canada they are over priced IMO.

I don't think there any 'hard losers' from this list. :)
