"Eight Arab, five Pakistani and two Afghan militants were killed when bombs they were making exploded prematurely inside a mosque in eastern Afghanistan, the interior ministry said on Sunday."

Now, I really don't have problems with suicide bombers. I just don't like when they take others with them.

Yeah, we're winning their hearts and minds, aren't we?

OK, some say this isn't a war of religions- how does that work when one side hides and builds bombs in Mosques?

They can't exactly build their little bombs out in the open like we do because we would kill them for it. The Mosque makes sense because there are like way too many people with one leg running around their homes bumping into stuff. These things are wicked dangerous. :D

You guys are all racist.
How do you know they weren't de-fusing the bomb?
The very bomb that was planted in the mosque by the same people that planted bombs in the Trade Centers on 9/11.

The problem I have is that they whine about mosques being damaged and how we're going after those for religious reasons and we pay a lot every time is happens but if they want to use them for religious reasons, I have no problem. I do have a big problem when they use the fact that we won't intentionally bomb or bust into their mosques and then they use them as a safe haven for terrorists.

Well, that's the conundrum faced by NATO forces, isn't it? We are trying to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people. That's why we follow laws and ROE, whereas the Taliban couldn't care less about the hearts and minds of the Afghan people. So, they will employ any and all means if it helps them in their cause. It's no different than the police dealing with criminals. The police are bound by laws in their pursuit of criminals, while the bad guys will do just about anything in order to remain at large.

Sometimes you have to know when to give up ... and that was when they didn't appreciate the US helping them rid themselves of the Russians. Would it be wrong to arm our prison population and drop them off in Kabul? :D

It could be like a PPV event. We could use the money to pay for Iraq. :p

I'm way ahead of ya buddy! Bring the boys (and girls - we've lost 3 in action) home - that place is a lost cause...

Actually, I think they did appreciate help getting the Russians out. But, once that was accomplished, the US turned her back and a vacuum was created that a bunch of nutbars were only too happy to fill.

Geez, we just can't win, can we. On one hand we are vilified for empire building and then when we don't do that we get castigated for not dragging a mideval civilization into the 20th century.

Afghanistan was run by warlords for hundreds of years before Russia invaded them, and they were run by warlords after Russia left them.

They will be again when we leave, as if they aren't already.

You do know we pay "protection" to various "Agencies" so supplies make it to where they need to go. (click here for details)

The newer "religious" warlords merely exploited the indigenous peoples inherent willingness to be subservient to anyone who threatens to kill them, particularly when they cloak their politics in mysterious religious gobbledygook.

All they want to do is grow their poppies in peace.

When we leave it will be as it is, was, and forever shall be over there.
