I'm already into the Denon AVR-5805 MkII financially, so I can't change that. However, thanks for the sub info.
Just one question.

Why in the world did you purchase that receiver? What features did you need?

Sorry to get back so late, I'm still learning to navigate this forum. I bought the Denon on Amazon. They Also had a 5805ci for 2999.00. They had the best prices.

I'm fairly new to the current market. I owned a great Onkyo system back in the early nineties, and a old Kenwood in the 80's. I bought a Bose lifestyle 48, and it just wasn't what I thought it to be. Seemed to be just good marketing. I think my old Onkyo was much better quality. I like to duplicate the "live" sound.
Why is the Klipsch sub bad? I was going to get the RT-12D. My room is 15x21. Any suggestions?

I think what they meant is the Klipsch is inferior in comparison to other subs out there for the same price. Hsu, SVS, Velodyne, Paradigm, etc. all make some outstanding subs. Klipsch is just out of their depth when it comes to subs.

In order to obtain meaningful suggestions for a sub (or two of them if money allows), you would do well to submit your allowance. Cheers.

wish list: 2 subs, 4 more rears, and another center?

Congrats the awesome Denon receiver.
About your Wish List---I can understand 2 subs, but why 4 more Rears and another Center? I have never heard of using 2 center speakers.

Yeah, for about 30 seconds there, I was actually thinking about buying another Center!:D

But how would he place them? Vertically side-by-side? Or stack them horizontally on top of each other? Or one on top of the TV and one on the bottom?

Wouldn't the imaging be totally screwed?

Could someone PLEASE try this out and let us know?:)

ACTUALLY, the RT-12D is a very, very powerful sub. It's their "lower" end subs (Synergy series, OLDER, chearper Reference series ) that aren't as competive with the HSU's and SVS's of the world. I've "heard" the RT-10D, which is smaller that the 12D and it is a monster. Tight, not boomy at all, and DAMN it's loud. Both of these are part of their newer Reference series line. HOWEVER, you are talking $ 1500-2500 subs here. There is a A LOT to choose from in this price range from many other manufacturers like ............Velodyne, Paradigm, Aerial, etc.

I bought the 5805 for the same reason, I found a great deal on it. I didn't really NEED all the features on it, in fact it was way overkill. But I couldn't resist the price. I also own a Klipsch RSW-12 sub that I bought years ago (got a deal on that one too!) and I thought it was pretty decent until I recently purhcased 2 HSU VTF-3 MK2 subs that completely blow the Klipsch sub away in every category that matters! And together they cost less than the Klipsch. I'm now using the RSW-12 in a 7.3 config. for LFE only. It simply doesn't measure up the the HSU subs. Hope this helps.

I tried it using two slightly different centers, one on top of the monitor and one on the bottom. (Polk lsic and Polk CSi5). I thought they sounded great at first - more center presence - and listened to them this way for a couple of months. I recently tried listening to just one center (the lsic) and was amazed at how clean and focused the center channel became. I just didn't realize how muddy the sound was coming out of two centers until I subtracted one. Perhaps if you tried 2 of the exact same speaker you might have better results. I dunno.

I would think it a rather tricky placement issue. I would always be thinking I'm listening to the two-headed monster. ;)

As the center is used primarily for dialogue, and as most people (at, least, last time I checked) had only one mouth, dual centers would seem troubling. Of course, this goes without saying  one always wants the best center speaker they can obtain.

I think I may just get the bigger center. I heard a two center (matching) system that sounded amazing. Both were below the tv, about two feet apart, one atop the other.
The 4 more rears are for the 9.1 surround from the 5805.
Thanks for all of the sub advice.
My system is WAYYYYYYY overkill for my room, but isn't that the point? I would have 4 subs around my room if I could afford it. I have my system around my bed. I like to sleep to music, and I seem to watch movies the most here too.

Yeah, Overkill is GREAT. But is there any soundtracks for 9.1? Or do you mean 5.1, but with 6 surround speakers (as in 3/6/1)?

Yeah, more subs + more speakers = :)

And if having 2 or 3 center speakers ever become a great thing (tested of course), sign me up!

The center IS used primarily for dialogue...for movies. But when listening to MUSIC in a surround mode, the center usually becomes the focal point for the singer/vocals, unless its an instrumental. But not always. I don't think anyone should be discouraged from trying to enhance that part of the music. In fact, this forum has reported positive results using two center speakers...by one of the moderators no less. I can look that up and post it if you really want to read it.

The below is an excerpt from the Set-Up, Listening Test section...

The next setup I wanted to try was a full-blown 7.1 system with a twist: M80ti front right and left speakers, two VP-150 center channel speakers, one above the screen and one below the screen, two EP-600 subwoofers, and M80ti tower speakers used as rear surrounds, placed 6 feet behind the listening position in line with the front M80ti speakers toed in about 12 degrees. I moved the QS-8 surrounds from the sidewall to the back wall and spaced them 8 feet apart and about 18" above the seated ear level.

Thinking about how to set up dual center channels I used a Y-splitter at the RX-V2500 舗 s center channel pre-out and connected it to an additional Aragon 2002 amplifier. I now had the Yamaha RX-V2500 舗 s amplifier powering the M80ti rear surrounds and the QS-8 EX channels. One Aragon 2002 was powering the M80ti front speakers and another Aragon 2002 amp powered the dual center channels using the pre-out 舗 s on the RX-V2500.

7.1 Listening Test - The Incredibles
After completing a channel level test and adjustment, I selected a DVD to test the Axiom System 舗 s dynamic capabilities in this configuration. An excellent DVD, The Incredibles , features excellent material in Chapter 23 "100 Miles Dash" and Chapter 24 "Reunited".

Playing these chapters with the RX-V2500 set to Dolby Digital EX through the Axiom system made me feel as though I was on one of those 3-D rides at an amusement park. The sound I experienced with the Axioms set up in this configuration had me thrilled with seamless head-ducking pans from left to right and front to back.

Dialogue with the dual center speakers was robust, uncompressed, and very natural sounding. The rear sound stage was enormous and the LFE produced from the twin EP-600s was jaw dropping. Set up in this configuration, the Axiom speakers obtained a level of dynamics that many could only dream about.

The system blended perfectly and I had little doubt that I had just configured the system with excellent synergy. The use of dual center channels was the perfect match for the very aggressive, very dynamic M80ti front speakers.

I wish they did a blinded test to see which was actually BETTER: single center speaker or dual center speaker. Using TWO may have sounded great, but how did this actually compare to using just one?

Exactly! I thought having two centers sounded great too, until I realized (through subtraction) one sounded better. But it's still possible that two could sound better than one if properly set-up, which wasn't the case with me.
