Bought new Denon & Klipsch

I bought a Denon AVR-5805 MKII, Klipsch RF-83 towers, and searching for a good price on the Klipsch RT-12D sub and the rest of the RF-83 system.
Any suggestions would be appreciated toward my choices good/bad, and also good pricing for the remainder of my system. I bought my new Klipsch Rf-83 towers for 1699 tax and shipping included. Is that a good deal?

If you like the sound of the Klipsch then you probably did alright. With Klipsch it seems people either love them or hate them. I may be wrong but I believe the The RF-83 came out about a year and a half ago and listed for $2,500 per pair. Just get the center that matches them and then run as far away fron their sub as you can. Call SVS and HSU and give them the size of your room and they will tell you which sub you need. The Klipsch sub is just not very good.

Based on the price you got on the RF-83s, the same place would be a good place to start looking.

Thanks

I'm fairly new to the current market. I owned a great Onkyo system back in the early nineties, and a old Kenwood in the 80's. I bought a Bose lifestyle 48, and it just wasn't what I thought it to be. Seemed to be just good marketing. I think my old Onkyo was much better quality. I like to duplicate the "live" sound.
Why is the Klipsch sub bad? I was going to get the RT-12D. My room is 15x21. Any suggestions?

They don't necissarily make a bad sub, but for the money you can get much better from another company like SVS or HSU and because matching a sub to the system is not important you might as well get the better value for your money.

For receivers I would look into the new line of Denon and Onkyo or if you want seperates check out Emotiva.

Denon

I'm already into the Denon AVR-5805 MkII financially, so I can't change that. However, thanks for the sub info.

Yep I didnt say bad; I said not very good. I tried one and was not impressed at all. For the 500-700 bucks the Klipsch will run you, you can get a sub that will blow it away.

Klipsch

The sub I was looking at was 2000.00. It has an 850 watt amp, and seemed nice. I'm going to do some more research.

Holy cow; I would run even faster away from it then. For that price you can get a great sub. The big SVS, HSU or even a Servo-15.

For $2k, you can do better. Klipsch makes excellent speakers, but their subs aren't the best if you intend to use them for movie applications because their low frequency extension isn't very impressive.. ......Well... compared to alternatives in the $2k price range.

Thanks for the links.
I am a Klipsch guy. I have a Reference 7 system in my HT. I recently purchased a SVS 20-39 PC/plus. Believe me it blows away the Klipsch subs I have heard. It goes lower and has more clarity than any sub I have heard.

In my opinion, if you are looking for a great sub, check out the SVS cylinders.
They are a little unconventional in appearance, but the performance is awesome.

The SVS PB12-Plus/2 would destroy that room if you let it run wild. Used with the proper restraint, it will be powerful and dynamic, yet musical. It will put a smile on your face. A PB12-Plus would more than meet most people's expectations.

I appreciate all of the advice. Anyone know about the Velodyne DD-18? Are they any good?

Thanks again.

Nice to know I'm heading in the right direction. I saw a good deal on one. Basically I'm putting together a large system with little money. I'm trying to buy the best I can for the cheapest. I bought my AVR5805MKII used for 2200.00, my Klipsch RF83's for 1699.00 new, and I found the DD-18 for 1199.00 still in the box. This is why I ask so many questions, to see if I'm getting worth my money. The only thing guiding me is this forum, product web sites, and the reviews I've read.

You may want to jump on the DD-18 before I find it...

You could probably get a great deal on a discontinued RSW15 subwoofer.

If you look at the attached link there is not much out there that outperforms it for the price, despite what you hear from the general public. And it does outperform the RT12d.
