Just got a call from my insurance replacement service. They now tell me the VS line is available and they're on their way. Go figure. Hopefully there are no more hiccups.

Good - because I was getting tired. Check back in, after you hook
them up and play them.

Just got this from Boston Acoustics customer support:

"The VS may still be available but are scheduled to be discontinued and replaced by the new A series."

I just asked them when the A series would be available.
The Boston customer support is confused - the A series is entry level.
The A series replaced the CS series.

Sorry to tire you Jim. ;-)

Yes, they are totally confused. Guess what? Yup, suddenly VS isn't available again. WTF. I've gotten 3 different stories in as many days. And each person I talk to or email says something different. F'in rediculous.

My replacement service's buyer says BA told him the VS 336 is only available in cherry. Website says it's only available in black. They tell me the VS 325C is only available in cherry. Website shows both black and cherry. They told me yesterday the VS 260 was available, today it isn't. Website also has it unavailable.

How much different are the RS and VS lines? Is it worth it to get VS for front and center and RS for rear or should I just go all RS if I have to. If all RS, that brings up the question of Polk LSi again.

Thanks for any input.

If at all possible, I would try for the VS front 3 channels. They are more
smooth, and have more resolution. However, based on what you have
owned - the RS series will be a good deal, and a major step up. You
still have the potentioal for good enjoyment and fun, with the RS line
all the way around. The Lsi would be my third choice.

Thanks again for all your input Jim. I've placed another order with the insurance company's replacement service for the 3 front speakers. Hopefully they don't f@$# it up again.

And I found someone online willing to sell me the matching bookshelf speakers that the replacement service couldn't get. They're new and for a reasonable price.

I hope it all works out this time. I'll let ya know how it goes.

Good Luck - I know that they are good, and should bring you pleasure.

Hello,

I know it's been ages but I've been meaning to get back to this thread to report on my experience w/ these speakers. As stated above, I went with a 5 speaker set of VS series from Boston Acoustics. 2xVS-336, 1xVS-224, 2xVS-260. I am very pleased with these speakers. They look nice and they sound great and they're only running on an HTR-5790 (I had to return my RX-A3000 because of audio delay problems with my CRT TV and 2nd zone). Granted, I'm no expert. I haven't heard many 'high end' speakers before (if any at all) and my last un-matched set was anything but. However I did audition all of the speakers that Best Buy and American had to offer and none of them sounded this good. As I sit here listening to an acoustic live album (STS9 - Axe The Cables) I am just amazed at the clarity and 'smoothness' of the audio. It's truely beautiful. I like listening in Neo:6 Music mode. It really helps the music to surround you.

Anyway, I'm pleased with my decision and thanks for the nudge Jim. I know many in these forums tried to steer me towards other brands that they said would beat this $6K set of speakers even at the $3K price I was able to get them at, but I was lured by the big name, good but limited reviews, and stylish black gloss and curvy look, and of course the 50% discount. It's hard to pass all of that up even with others claiming other speakers may be better yet having never heard these. They also look nice with my black glossy Polk microPRO 3000 (which some poo-pooed also but I think it's a great little musical sub).

All that said, it's too bad they're discontinuing that line. At least that's what I was told. There are still some available on their website and probably online. If you can get a complete set for anywhere the $3K I was able to buy them at, I say, do it. They look good and sound great. Of course don't forget that amps play a part too. I think the RX-A3000 sounded better with these speakers than my HTR-5790. Too bad it was giving me audio delay issues.

Ok, that's enough babbling. I just had to report back because I said I would.

Take care,
Mike

P.S. As a fun side note to my mishaps with the insurance company's repalcement service... My first order of speakers had a fork lift driven into them at some point during the shipping process. Big chunks taken out of the top of each tower. I had to send back both of them. With the apparently limited supply still available I was worried they wouldn't have any more. Fortunately they did. Another 3 weeks later I finally recieved the two towers completing my 5 speaker set.

Thank You for checking back in - The VS line is solid. And I at times get
amused, when people try to compare cheaper speakers, and they never
have heard the higher line speakers. Continue to enjoy, and you have
had enough bad luck lately.

You know, Jim, I was thinking about grabbing a pair of refurb VS240's from Boston since you've praised them on a few occasions...

Then Boston raised the price from $200 each to $240 each... That stopped me from another impulse buy...

I noticed the price increase - they sound better than $240 -
maybe they will come down again. I think, that I have gone
3 months with out buying any speakers.

They measure good:
The VS 240’s listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.52/–2.29 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilohertz. An average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal responses measures +1.23/–2.77 dB from 200 Hz to 10 kHz.

I'm sure they're worth the extra $80 per pair, but that was a budget killer for me right now.

They certainly measure well, aside from the low sensitivity (I think it was measure around 83dB)...

Yes, they do need a strong receiver or amp.

Glad to hear you got sorted out, and landed in a substantial upgrade.....

....and to nudge you a little more, Emotiva is selling all products at 15% off with free shipping during RMAF....$550 for the XPA-3 power amp. Running your front stage off of that will open it up completely and really push what you have over the top....Highly recommended!
