I am trying to help a friend of mine out who has a bose system with the above subwoofer or what ever you want to call it.

I guess the sub does not work anymore so now the entire stereo does not work since the cube speakers hook up to this thing.

I told him before he starts buying new stuff let me put a quick post up I was thinking it could be a fuse maybe, but I am not even sure how to take off the plastic cover on the back i see no screws holding it on.

any ideas

thanks

In all fairness, you should expect a healthy dose of 'time to upgrade'. While Bose, deservedly, has a poor reputation for sound quality, I haven't heard much of their products failing like this. If the repair is $500 or more, which I would expect, then it would be cheaper to get a new system, and it would sound better for the money.

I don't think many people on these forums have the complete Acoustimas systems of this nature, which is why you may not hear much in the way of specifics to help you out.

The bass module in these Bose systems is basically the integrated amplifier. All audio runs into it, then it goes out to the speakers. If the internal amplifier fails, then you have to replace the entire module, which is just not cost effective.

Back in the late 1990's I had Bose Lifestyle 12 5.1 system that did the same thing. It was still in warranty so I took it back for repairs and was told the amp in the sub went bad. They replaced it and soon after that I went to a AVR and used my music speakers (Cornwalls) as fronts and now I have my current 5.2 HT/Music system I use now. I gave the Bose to my daughter, hey it still works but when I go to kids house and watch TV I think wow Why did I ever buy this POS. Spoiled now and my 5.2 is just Ok compaired to some of the members systems I see here.

Smart man. Junk is still junk after you fix it!
