Jim,
Here is a tip, the oppening on the Bose "bass modules" is the port. You must have the woofers pointed into the back or sides of your cabinet.
I believe that the Bose bass modules are bandpass design. That is, the woofers are all internal and the port is the only place sound comes from.

If you sell your system and purchase, for example, the $1000 SVS speaker system, you will honestly be blown away by the dramatic increase in sound quality and clarity from your system.
I agree with this, rather than sinking more money in a dead end, overpriced and underperforming system (all my opinion) you might want to try a few other things before spending money. While the ORBs are one option, there are plenty of smallish bookshelf speakers you could wallmount and mate with a real subwoofer and have a much fuller and more dynamic sound than the Bose is capable of while still keeping other members of the family happy wrt appearance.

Jim, you have the "woofer" modules inside a closed entertainment center?
It's not enclosed, it has a grill front. That's what it's for and it works great. The actual subwoofer is beside the cabinet.

I just checked out the SVS speaker system. Good rating but the sub is really big and so are the speakers. I have limited space due to my townhouses design. (See picture) I dont' mind spending 2,000 on some good speakers as long as they look good and sound good. I really need a sub that is thin and long like the bose system. I have 3 Bose cube spekers in the back of the room. On the left of my plasma you can see the BOSE sub. Behind the TV is a laudry room which I added my onkyo THX receiver, Toshiba HD DVD, Panasonic Blue Ray player. and Sony HD recorder.

And actually, the Bose Acoustimass module is not a subwoofer. It's a bass module for the cubes. You need a separate subwoofer if you want the booming bass that only a true subwoofer can provide.

I suggest you go on Ebay and purchase a new Bose Acoustimass 5 for $399. You may find a used one for considerably less. Put the two speakers and Acoustimass module in the back of your room as your rear speakers. Run the wiring directly from your receiver to the Acoustimass module and from the module to your two speakers.

This is a really bad waste of $399 IMHO. I think you should save that money for some of the speakers already talked about in this thread, which will eat any amount of bose satellites and acoustimass modules for breakfast.

What do you guys think about this system:

KEF KHT-3005

I did some measurements and I think it will fit my application and look cool. I can cut out a hole in the sheetrock for the center channel.

Does this system beat the NANOSAT Prestige system? Thanjs for your input it really helps to hear other peoples advice.

So you're going from wanting one additional rear speaker to buying an entire new speaker system? If you're going to buy new speakers, I would wait until you move to a larger place and get a really nice tower setup, etc.

Actually my place is 1900 square feet. I have a 3 story townhouse that I bought new 2 years ago. I don't think I will be moving anytime soon. It's located 3 blocks from downtown Houston.

I'm now thinking a tall flat speakers would llok and work better in this situation. I can place them above the plasma screen and one horizontally below.

I would need to find something for the surround speakers.

Yes I change my mind very quickly but as an designer engineer I allways think of different ways to solve a problem.

I still think the KEF egg shaped speakers will do a great job.

That is the kiss of death. :D

I can relate. See my threads on my stupid AV stand. I can tell you off the top of my head the exact dimensions of every component I currently own and every one I want to purchase. It's the old 'paralysis by analysis' syndrome - constantly looking for the 'right' solution.

consider magnepan... they have a HT setup that is all wall mountable. You would just have to find a sub to go with it. www.magnepan.com
