Boomy mid bass from Netflix and Amazon Video

Our audio/video room has pretty good acoustics. Blu-Ray movies, DVDs and CDs sound great. No boomy bass. Dialog is clear. However, I've recently begun viewing movies from Netflix & Amazon and the sound quality is horrendous. Male voices boom so badly you can barely hear dialog. Have others noticed this? I'm wondering if it's something my ISP is doing (seems unlikely) or if it's something Netflix and Amazon and Amazon are doing. I don't see how the limited bandwidth compared with CD or other disc would cause this problem.

Thanks

Haven't had any issues like that. What gear and apps is in use?

I have not noticed this at all. What device are you streaming via and what is the audio setting? The device setting for how it handles that audio can affect this. On my FireTV there is a setting to force DD+ for everything Dolby and stereo for anything else. Seems to work the best for Netflix and Prime.

I use the app in the Vizio tv. Then just the Onkyo receiver and the 7.1 speaker set shown in my sig. It did occur to me after posting the question that I should try the Netflix app in the Oppo Blu-Ray player. I'll try that tonight. And I'll try Netflix from the Apple TV.

To j-garcia,

I'll look through the Vizio setup to see if there's anything to adjust. I have audio set to off on the tv itself, and perhaps I assumed that was all I needed to do.

Thank You

Might want to go thru audio settings on both the tv and avr to be sure, trying the other apps sounds like a good thing to try. Are these all connected via hdmi or ?

You set the audio to off, but the digital audio pass thru setting still applies.

Also, you are better off not streaming to the TV. Every "smart" TV manufacturer so far has been busted for privacy violations.

Input to TV is HDMI. Audio output from TV is digital.

I changed the output setting on the TV from PCM to Bitstream and the problem is solved.

Many thanks to you both.
