Bookshelf as center for tower mains?

This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. Lobing is a real issue with horizontal center channel speakers, but it's a compromise we make to get the speaker to fit under or over the screen while maintaining driver number and cabinet size.

So people recommend identical speakers across the front when possible. This is generally not possible when using large tower speakers, even in a dedicated HT.

Does anyone use a smaller bookshelf as a center? For example, putting an Axiom M22 as a center to complement M60 tower mains.

I have used a bookshelf as a center with towers before with good results. A good option for replacing a poorly designed center (though I have used a properly designed MTM center with good luck.)

I guess it will also depend on if you place the bookshelf horizontally or vertically.

I also use an Infinity P163 bookshelf as a center with my P362 towers.

I think vertical bookshelf speakers match perfectly with vertial towers - I think better than horizontal centers.

So I am 100% for using bookshelf as vertical centers with either towers or other bookshelf speakers.
