Shouldn't Saving Private Ryan DTS and Men in Black DTS be on this list?

No, they had 754 Kbps dts, not 1.5 Mbps.

  • Saving Private Ryan (DreamWorks) 754kbps Discontinued
  • Saving Private Ryan: 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition (DreamWorks) 754kbps (Only when bought as part of the four-disc World War II Collection box set. DTS is not included on the two-disc release.)
  • Men In Black (Columbia TriStar) 754kbps
  • Men In Black: Superbit (Columbia TriStar) 754kbps Discontinued
  • Men In Black 2: Superbit (Columbia TriStar) 754kbps Discontinued

The full list of DVD's with dts is here - http://www.spannerworks.net/reference/10_6a.asp

I have, Yamaha RX-V3800 (7.1) and Panasonic BD-30. I use netflix and I must say I am quite suprised how many movies that are encoded in DTS MA. I remember about 10 years ago when I bought my first Dolby Digital Receiver and how impressed I was with Twister in 5.1. I had that feeling all over again with DTS HD MA.
...and so far all the New Line Cinema releases have feature 7.1 dts-ma, a trend I hope continues.

The Golden Compass is slated for dts-ma 7.1

There are titles that aren't on that list as well. Nine Inch Nails: And All That Could Have Been dts was 1509k And I am sure there are imports that aren't on it also - I have Jin-Roh (Special Edition), a Japanese animated film that has a 1509K Japanese dts track.

That would explain why I've always been impressed with the NIN dts version, as far as concerts on DVD go, the audio there is reference.

In addition, the dts version had all the extras in dts 5.1 whereas the Dolby version had all the extras in Dolby Stereo.

I've never checked the NIN DVD on the PS3 to see the audio bitrate, I must do that.

The site also does mention the following:

The following (conventional theatrical release: no concerts/music releases, direct-to-video or IMAX titles) DTS DVDs are currently available, or have been announced for release, in Region One (US, Canada and US Territories).

God, I hate DTS-HD MA, or at least the PS3's inability to decode it.

I would have rather seen it die than HD-DVD!

How are you guys getting the DTS-MA?

Panasonic DMP-BD30, Samsung 5000 or 1400?

Hooked to what receiver?
I have the Samsung BD-P1400. It decodes lossless audio codecs. As for DTS-HD, the P1400 decodes DTS-HD MA as DTS-HD HR (high resolution). Found the HR quite acceptable in Die Hard 3.

DTS-HD MA requires a great amount of memory buffer, because of the volume of data, and my sense is that the P-1400 does not carry enough HD space for it.

I notice New Line & Fox are pretty much exclusive on DTS-MA.

I notice Lionsgate is going from DTS-MA to LPCM (War).
I notice Sony going from LPCM to TrueHD (Spiderman).

That's how I felt initially. But like they say, if you can't beat them, join them!:D

I'm afraid it's not dts-hr.
It's core dts at 1.5 Mbps. dts-hr also contains a dts core.
dts-ma does not contain a dts-hr core, it's only of a higher resolution than dts on the majority of DVD titles, but DVD-Video is capable of 1.5 Mbps dts as well. For bandwidth's sake it's not used very often.

http://dtsonline.com/dts-hd/better-sound-today-perfect-sound-tomorrow.php

DTS-HD is an extension of the original DTS Coherent Acoustics format. All DTS-HD encoded content contains the original DTS 1.5 Mbps core. When played back through your existing DTS capable system, the DTS-HD extension is simply "ignored" and the DTS Core is recognized and decoded. Due to space constraints, most standard DVDs encoded DTS at only 768 kbps, or half of its’ full potential. DTS-HD can contain the full DTS core*, so your receiver will play back DTS surround audio at over twice the data rate of other formats.

All existing DTS receivers or home theater systems are compatible with DTS-HD Audio and can deliver an immediate audio improvement: clearer, fuller and more dynamic sound. In instances where the DTS-HD includes a DTS Core with 6.1 channels or 96/24, consumers with DTS-ES and DTS-96/24 will be able to enjoy 6.1 discrete channels or 96/24 audio in 5.1 surround.. This is a unique advantage of the DTS system.

Thanks for posting that graph doby, I have perused the dtsonline website and found this a while back but I forgot about it. Very informative. I have a few blu-ray discs now; some have dts-ma, most are pcm, and a couple have true hd. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference -- which kind of reminds me of the epiphany I had last generation: the source material is just as if not more important than the codec used. Deep down though I'm hoping that at least one dts-ma disc with the max bitrate comes out at some point that will blow away even the most jaded and skeptical audiophile in all of us. Oh and I won't buy another New Line dts-ma encoded disc until I can independently verify that the content of the discs actually matches the packaging. This has come up before, but Pan's Labyrinth and Shoot 'em Up are both 5.1 dts-ma despite their claim to be 7.1 dts-ma.

Are you serious?

I did not realize that!

I'm only using 5.1 anyway, but lying like that by New Line is not good.

I played War BD (7.1 PCM) and it seemed to be 7.1 PCM - not that it sounded any differently than 5.1 PCM, but I'm pretty sure I heard all 4 surround speakers.

I have never listened to DTS-MA 7.1.

Does anyone even make TrueHD 7.1?

War is definitely PCM 7.1, I don't think there are any TrueHD 7.1 titles yet, but there will be.

PCM 7.1 titles are:

3:10 To Yuma
Tyler Perry's Daddy's Little Girls
Delta Farce
Good Luck Chuck (Unrated)
Ultimate Avengers Collection
National Lampoon's Van Wilder (Unrated)
Waiting... (Unrated and Raw)
Weeds Season 2

War is the only 24-bit 7.1 PCM track currently released.
