Hi,

My brother is going on a visit to America in the next week. I am thinking of getting some blu-ray discs through him. Can our forum friends suggest as to which region we should select while purchasing a blu-ray disc. The regions are categorized as A, B, C, Which is the safest of them so as to be played on a blu-ray player in India, which incidentally I have not purchased yet.

Actually I am confused, as to whether one should buy discs according to the player or vice versa. One of my friends suggested me to go for a all-region/region free blu-ray player. Does it solve the problem then? i.e. when we buy an all-region player then shall we be able to play any type of discs may it be A, B, OR C.

If at all there are players which are region-free, please let me the make and models.

Thanks and regards

Yes, if you have the money, getting a region free player would be ideal. They are not cheap though.

India uses Region C.

Please note that not all discs need a certain code of A, B, or C; there are many out there that are "region-free" (can play in any player).

For example, of the modern French titles I have watched, all of them were region free. (Otherwise, to find a region B title requires a purchase by me, through a foreign marketplace, with unfavorable currency exchanges, etc.)

Now, there are two places I've seen recommended by people (whether for purchase or post-modification) I would tend to trust, however, I do not know if they would recommend them for you for whatever reasons, being in India (I am not talking about the region free portion, but maybe the possibly differing electricity specs of your country).
