WOOHOO, to my amazement, WHV has now gotten another shipment here on time.

Blade Runner HD DVD 5 disc set, was at my front door at 10:00am.

Now to get down for some serious movie watching.;)

If you got this set, and would like to post your opinions, post away.
I'll post back as soon as I see at least 1 of the versions.:p

I am going to get it. Just deciding which format to get it on. I want the briefcase version. That is sweet!

Yeah, I do like Blade Runner, but could not justify to myself the cost of the briefcase version.
Since it comes with all the same discs.
Granted, I did think long and hard on that, and could have gotten it for 35% off.

But then the problem of storage would have come up, and to be honest, I do not like the Harry Potter 'odd' size box.
It does not fit well with the other discs. So I will have to print custom covers for all those discs.....

But if you have the room for displaying the set, then by all means get the tin.

Here is what I'm talking about. Not just the tin size that I am talking about, but with those sets, they don't come with any type of standard disc holder (all are different sizes).
And to get a particular disc, you have to dig through the whole set. Rather than just grabbing the 1 movie you want.

LOL, and no you are not crazy, by seeing doubles (or even triples).
A few discs, I have some extras (from deals, or were going to give as a present, gave some away, sold a few, etc...)

As you see, those 'collector sets' you really still need to buy normal disc holders and print the covers.
Well, that would be the easiest when searching for a specific movie in the set.

Personall, I do not have the room for even the HP set.
So will have to print covers for each of those, and store away the box.

It will be the last 'collector tin' I get, unless it is offered at a great price..;)

BTW, does anyone need a X-box HD DVD add-on drive sealed for 95.00 shipped?
Comes with King Kong, saves me the time from putting on eBay.

I just got mine today, the SD version. I was amused by the toys. :)

I haven't had time to watch any of the discs yet but probably this weekend. For now, I'm busy playing Mass Effect whenever I can squeeze in some free time.

Ordered mine through my local Ma & Pa vid store (support the independents eh) and their order hasn't came in yet.
How does the cop car look? What else came with it?

Blade Runner is one movie! How on earth do they get five discs out of it?:confused:

If you have to ask.....

Gman, so how does it look and sound in HD? I'm going to pick it up tonight at Fry's in HD version. The sound would be easy to improve compared to the original Director's Cut DVD version I have.

Hijack warning: I updated my A2 last night with 2.7 but didn't notice any improvement of loading disc. Maybe 2 seconds faster loading Shrek 3 in HD.

@ Joe,
The cost of the set is exactly inline with the cost of any single disc new movie (max 27.95)
I paid something like 22.00 for mine, but that was because it was on pre-order for over 2 months at WHV, and I ordered when they had a 35% off.

LOL, at Duff, with 'if you have to ask'.
That is funny you say you buy "Superbit", and already know that you are overpaying for that single disc.

Another example would be Star Wars 4 (original for me), I would much rather have the first version, but would be glad also to see in a set, the extended version, as well the director's version, etc...
LOL, specially considering I saw it in the movies a half dozen times.
Other people, (generally younger fellows), would rather have the updated version over the 'original' version, etc...

@Rick, (Duff)
Yes, I only got around to watching the 'Final Cut', and I will say for a 25 year old movie, it looked and sounded spectacular. It is a must own for even the slightest Blade Runner fan, or Sci-Fi fan.
Quite clearly the best every put on disc (concerning PQ).

Granted, I am not the only one saying this.;)
See here - http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1040/bladerunner_cce.html

It happens to be one of the few movies, I would be happy to say I spent 27.95 for.
But even happier knowing I spent less.:p

I typically pay $15 for a new release DVD, with $20 being maximum. $12-$15 is typical for older movies, with as little as $6 not uncommon. I paid $10 each for all my Superbit DVDs.
I find most "extras" boring (the obvious exception being ones that are short films ala Pixar), and would definitely not pay to have two (or more) versions of the same movie.

You are OVERPAYING for those SD movies (even the Superbit ones).
I have (at last count) over 1700 DVDs, and will not buy another SD DVD, due to quality.

Currently have about 135 HD movies (~75 HD DVD & 60 BD), the average I paid for them is under 14.00 considering all the free discs I got, as well all the BOGO offers.
All of them (excpet maybe ~10) I already have on DVD, and all of them blow away the DVD version, whether for audio difference and or PQ.

If I had ever seen them for less, I would agree. Since I haven't, I don't.
I have no intention of ever buying Blu Ray or HD.

You must be joking, you come into a thread that says HD

Yet want to complain about why others would buy into it?
Please stop trolling, or at least take it to the Steam Vent.

My comments had to do with the ridiculous notion of buying multiple versions of one movie. The "HD" part didn't even register, since that is something I routinely ignore. I only brought the subject up because of the even more ridiculous "you are overpaying because your discs are SD" comment.

B, I was thinking the same thing. ;)

I read the article, thanks for the link. I'll be picking this up this evening. BTW, I have the Criterion LD version copied on DVD. It was the original international release with narration and extra violence. I'm glad to see the Final Cut include the extra violence

Well, they do have two different ending and they have the original with the running comments from the actor and one without on the directors cut?
It's one that I want/would like to have and may get as a present;)
But, I would not have mined with having only one version.

I will have to pick up one of these DVD versions. Last Friday I saw BR on the big screen with an early generation print of this new edition and was completely blown away. This is one of those movies that has gotten better and more believable since its original release. The sound, in all its Dolby Stereo glory was OK but just OK. It's the visuals that keep replaying in my head. This movie was pre-digital, done with models and bluescreen and the strange, wet, dark dystopian huge city environment was simply stunning. This movie is a seminal "must have" for cyberpunk and sci-fi fans.
