Black Friday Sub Sales Question

Need a sub to finish off my home theater speaker system and have been waiting anxiously for Black Friday to arrive. I have a 15 x 24 foot space with 8 foot ceilings that in turn opens to another space so I have at least 3,500 to 4,000 cubic feet. I have Infinity Primus P363 towers, and PC351 center and then NHT Superzero 2.0 surrounds (2 of them) giving me a 5.0 system currently paired with a Yamaha rx-v673 AVR. Primary listening is TV/Movies 90% and Music 10%.

I had been thinking of the Outlaw LFM-1 EX for this space and just waiting for Black Friday to pull the trigger, but $600 for a sub is a lot of money. However, with others offering deals I wanted to check with the forum to see if there might be other recommendations in the SVS, HSU, Rythmik or another brand that they would recommend. Any additional savings goes under the tree for my kids.

Thanks

IMHO, that's not exactly a small space you have to fill and $600+ is right around where you're going to have to be in order to get a good level of bass combined with some decent headroom. I used to own the LFM-1 EX and can say it's definitely worth the money. I also liked the variable tuning so that you could sort of match to taste. I think that one of those would be adequate for your room. Anything less than $500 either isn't going to dig very deep, isn't going to get very loud, or the SQ is probably going to be ugly, especially with a room that size to fill.

Another question for Forum members. If I purchase a down firing sub and my floor material is carpet do I need to place the sub on another material or just place it on the carpet. Will the carpet absorb too much output?

At bass frequencies the carpet does almost nothing in terms of sound absorption. You just need to make sure the driver has enough room and the carpet is not touching it.

With that size of room (just shy of 3,000cuft), goals (mostly movie watching) and budget...the LFM-1ex is the best bet right now. I'm definitely thinking about getting one now and just adding another at a later date. Although the dual e1010i subs from EMP look great, they LFM-1ex would absolutely kill the e1010i dual's in any regard. Maybe I'll get lucky and come across a used one soon or a pair of them used.
