As I said in my first post I am a long time reader but new poster to this forum and many of the postings by users here of their experiences/knowledge have helped me when making audio/video purchasing decisions. I have seen very little about the BJC speaker cables so I figured it was only fair to share what I knew and thought. I didn’t mean for my message to sound like promotional material in the least, just my observations and thoughts. I just think it's a decent product IMO. From reading other message detailing others views and experiences I guess I should of added why I changed to these cables and anything that might be a con about them. Here it goes:
In my earlier post I said I changed from Monster THX cables, there were two reasons, the first being the monster cables were falling apart. Twice under warranty I had to have the copper wire reconnected to the banana connectors and the other cables appeared to be going down that road (the vinyl covers from the cable to the banana connector were a mess too). My second reason is purely subjective but I always felt my system didn't sound as loud as it should be and I read some reports that said certain monster speaker wire back in the day had problems. Based on those two reasons (mainly the idea of the cables falling apart) I decided to change out to some pre-built speaker cables with banana connectors.
I have read many sites that pretty much agree a well-built cable, quality connectors, and with quality wire should do the job as well as any other. I also remember reading reports of some hardware store brand speaker wire and Monster wire that had problems mainly that it started to turn green/oxidize. With all that knowledge in mind I decided to look based on this criteria:
1) Pre-built (As I said don't mind cabling but never been big on making it look good. Wanted well made but didn't need glowing lights or exotic patterns).
2) Locking Banana connectors (Easy to use and durable)
3) Quality of wire/cable (Decent Gauge, OFC, good jacket)
4) Cost (Something that won't break the bank but I wasn't pinching penny's either)
Blue Jeans cable met my criteria so that's why I chose them.
Here are some cons I thought of:
If price is your main concern your probably better going with building your own or looking around. Though there are more expensive cables there are also cheaper.
If the cables appearance is a major concern then there are brands that really make eye-catching cables. I do hear though that BJC does custom work so you may want to check with them about appearance.
If you want something flat for wall runs then this isn't the cable for you pretty thick round cable.
BTW I almost didn't consider BJC because awhile ago I tried finding out some information about their coax video cable and never got a response from them after I e-mailed and I read some things on another forum that weren't complimentary to the way BJC is run. I changed my mind because they have been in business for a while and many more people seemed to have good experiences with them. Also the product fitting my criteria helped.
