Binding post: learn from my mistake!

I like a good, tight electrical connection. I got a bit overenthusiastic tightening the binding posts, and one of them suddenly spun free! I was afraid I had permanently broken it, but was able to fix it by removing the plate and adjusting a nut from inside (whew.)
My conclusion: Don't use a wrench on binding posts, settle for finger-tight!

Just good and hand tight should be all you need, your lucky you didn't break it. I never put tools to my binding posts.

Hehehe, I can just about picture myself standing there holding a loose binding post with a look of disbelief on my face :D

Yes, I'd say there's no need to tighten it until juice comes out of the cable, you're right about that.;)

I think that "holy ****" was one of the nicer things that I said.:p
Even though I got it working again, I might have more peace of mind by replacing it (especially if I need to change the wires at some point in the future.). Any idea where to buy replacement binding posts?

If only the nut inside was a bit loose I don't see any reason to change them. Can't help you with a store name, I've seen some for sale in my country when I went and bought some banana plugs, but that would be no help to you.

I reckon any country has some 'round the corner store run by some electronist geek where you can find odds and sods, from exotic tiny screwdrivers to RCA's and soldering guns.

You were tightening why? Yes, Parts Express carries plenty of them.

All you should need to do is add a washer and a lock washer to it if it doesn't have them.

I honestly don't know what I was thinking. This is an example of something that "seemed like a good idea at the time", but obviously wasn't.
As Alexxus said, I probably don't need to replace it since re-tightening the nut worked.

Reminds me of the old song that plays to the tune of old McDonald..."Beatin his meat with a monkey wrench"...

I have gotten out my socket set before for tightening posts, Not because I torqued them down that much but just because I couldnt get them as tight as I wanted by hand and the little plastic wrench supplied with the speakers had stripped. I did end up loosening the nut on one set of posts doing that in the past.
