Hey fellas,

I have 3 burning questions for y'all :)

1. If I need to extend my speaker cables (and do not have the option of just buying longer ones) can I splice an additional (3 feet) of the same or similar speakers wire to the ends? If so, what's the best method(s)? - they will be inside the drywall as well...

2. I will be getting a comcast digital HD box (with tuner inside) to watch HD programming on my new plasma. I have an HDMI in outlet on the plasma (and a nice HDMI to HDMI cable). My question: do these comcast boxes usually have HDMI outs? (or are the DVI, etc.)? And since HDMI is video and audio in one, will it work for me to have an HDMI going out from the Comcast HD Box to my plasma monitor (no speakers) and a digital optical or Coax audio cable going out from the Comcast HD Box to my receiver?

3. Any tips on the best 10 DVDs to show off my plasma and 5.1 surround?

Thanx one and all in advance,

-Tiffany

1. I wouldn't see anything wrong with splicing as long as you soldered. just measure the resistance to make sure you made made good connections.

2. the comcast hd box that i have has dvi with fiber out. then i would imagine as long as you have optical out you could reroute it back to the receiver that way (or just analog to the tv and fiber directly up to the receiver).

3. a couple dvd's (in no particular order) that i think have great video and audio (even if the movies aren't always the best)

Chronicles of riddick
Star Wars Ep 3
Saving Private Ryan
Master and Commander
U-571
Terminator 2 Ultra Edition

1. I already answered this in your other thread.

2. If you don't have a receiver with HDMI, then yes, this is the way to go. If you do, run all the video and audio through the receiver (which for HDMI is just the one cable) and make your life simple.

3. In addition to those listed:

The Incredibles
Finding Nemo
DTS Demo Disc #9

Rocky

1) refer to other thread

2) Not in America, so I can not give an answer

3) Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
Master and Commander
Man on Fire
War of the Worlds
Mr and Mrs Smith
Saving Private Ryan
U-571

Master and Commander is a must, especially in DTS, the sound is absolutely incredible. It has to have the best soundtrack that I have ever heard. In DTS you can hear every single splinter of wood drop, and you get absolutely emersed in the sound, It is incredible. Finding Nemo is great, both audio and video wise. U571 will really show off audio, especially bass, Man on Fire is just a wicked movie, War of the worlds sounds wicked, so does the incredibles, and MR and Mrs Smith. Saving Private Ryan doesn't even need an explanation :p
