Hi all,

Haven't heard much from the Bic and Athena crouds lately. Last year Bic & Athena were usually at the top of the "entry level/econonmy" recomend list. How do the they stack up against the av123 X-series speakers? Has anyone had any experience with all three?

I've only listened to the Athenas myself,

Other than the center channel, the X series are about twice as expensive as the BIC 62 series. I think they're quite a step up in price compared to the Athena's as well. The big deal this year was the Insignia coaxial speakers at Best Buy for $39.99 a pair (sale price; $49.99 retail). I purchased a pair and wasn't impressed. I think I'd rather have a set of DV62si's over the Insignia's as far as bookshelves go. I've always liked the Athena Audition series towers (dual 8" woofers, series .1, but they're almost impossible to find now).

I wasn't impressed with the BIC BQ(fro AH review), but you can mod them to make it sound better.

And this new Athena Sub I have is junk(gave away a bit of the review:eek: ). Not Impressed with it at all. The new speakers dropped a lot of weight too, which leads me to believe they're not braced.

I'd stick with the X-series. Most likely have better BQ then both Athena and BIC.

I own both the Bic Acoustech Cinama series and two of the x-cs. For my ears I prefer the Acoustechs for movies and the x-cs with music. As far as looks go its a no brainer the X-CS look better.

I have got 3 X-CS as fronts in my upstairs system. I love them for music and movies. Heck of a speaker for $139

I will soon be comparing the x-cs to the HTD Level 3 center speaker. Im sure it will be interesting as they both feature very interesting designs.

I never did like those Athena subs. I had one, can't remember the model, the one with 10" woofer front mounted and a front chuff port. I have never been so disappointed with a sub. The openning scene in Episode 3 just made the sub chuff to no end. I called it the "Chuff King". I would rather listen to the Tandy corp RCA knock-off sub that I had before the Athena.

Now the Athena Speaker were, I said Were, another story. Now all I see from them is Sub/Sat configurations.

You mean the AS-P400? I used that EXACT scene to test it, and yes, all it could do was fart it's face off! That sub wasn't THAT bad though, when looking at it's replacement (which I also have), it's a king in comparison.

They're speakers were good, but now, they seem far to light, esp. considering NOTHING changed. Who knows, maybe they can use some of Klipsch's BQ and Energy drivers.

Why aren't any of the Onix speaker Bi-Wire capable?

Because Bi-wiring is actually BUY-wiring. Using a sufficient size wire, the affects are inaudible (IE: Whatever gauge that is needed for the certain length of run. 12ga. wire is good to 50feet).

Well I do think "bi-wiring" is pointless, Having to sets of binding posts does serve a purpose. In my application I have my Infinity speakers (bi-wirable) connect to my Carver amp. The amplifier has 5 discrete output stages that are completely seperate from one another. I have 4 channels reserved for my front speakers and the last channel is dormant. The result is less clipping, noticably.

And I am using 10 gauge I believe.
