Thanks speakerman. Do you think the VTF2,3 for $500 is acceptable to your 3,3? Or, is the extra $130 worth the money?
roger, don't forget that after shipping, even with the current -3 Mk3 sale, the -2 Mk3 is about $180 cheaper. That is a pretty significant difference. If budget is tight, and/or if room size is less than 4500 ft^3, then -2 Mk3 is a great performer!

Sincerely,

Pete

mike, I wanted to use a more standardized login name for the company. So it could be Dr_Hsu, Pete_Hsu, Leo_Hsu, Candi_Hsu, etc. Also, my private message boxes were all basically filled up, so it gave me good excuse to just start over :D

At various times, I have alternated between the PB12-Plus and the STF-3. In my experience, if I were looking for a sub primarily for music, I would choose the Hsu. Bear in mind that this is just my subjective opinion and not backed by science of any kind. Nor is it a slam on the SVS, which is a very competant sub in it's own right and would surely not disappoint.

The only way to really tell which one sounds better to you is to listen to them both. See if you can find someone in your area and go audition them.

Flatness of response is a preferable trait. Most good subwoofers (and certainly the ones you're talking about here) have fairly flat responses. But they do sound different, despite their relative flatness.

It's one thing to be able to play loud, it's something else entirely to be able to play the same note with minimal distortion. A "musical" sub produces minimal distortion even at really high SPL. The Velodyne DD series of subs use a servo feedback mechanism to minimize distortion, typically giving you less than 1% distortion.

Budget subs don't sound good, partly because they sacrifice accuracy (low distortion) to attain high volume.
