Best Surround Speakers Under $400

Hi all,

I caught the audiophile bug. Can't stop upgrading
I desperately need to upgrade my surrounds 2 speakers.

A can get speakers from Ascend (HTM200) $280 for both.
HTM-200 SE Home Theater Monitor

Or ... maybe there is a better choice? Please help.

I do 60% Movies vs 40% music (in all channel mode)


My current system is

A/V Receiver - Yamaha rx-v465
L/R - Ascend Sierra-1 NrT
Center - Ascend Sierra-1 NrT
Surrounds - HTiB Onkyo...... (NEED Upgrade)
Sub - Rythmik F12
TV - Panasonic TH50PX60U (50' Plasma)
Blu-ray/DVD - Samsung BD 6000

Those Ascend's are highly regarded around here. I hooked up my Wharfedale WH2 as surrounds recently and really really love them. You can find them on ebay for $100-150 range.

You will not go wrong with the 200's, I use them for surrounds also with 340's in the front... I have a brand new pair you can have for $250 shipped if you are interested... Brand new in the box, I got them a couple weeks ago, I was going to build second theater, but decided not to... I also have a set of 170's if you want to go for 7.1 lol
Where do they have them for $280, I think these were $320...

LOL, I have spent over $5000 with them, they never gave me a discount, except for the package deals, and $60 off a set of stands, and 12% off one entire order, and .... OK they did give me some discounts too, sorry... They are awesome over there Deana {I am bad with names} is a peach.

I love their stuff, for the money and for theater you can not go wrong, get the 200's and dont look back, mine do the job perfectly, I power them with 2 channels off of my XPA500 so they have 400watts at their disposal but pulling surround duty, I would be surprised if they use 20... I have high ceilings and was worried they would get lost, but I used some OMNI 20 ceiling mounts and they are rock solid.. I hardley notice the surrounds, unless a car door shuts or phone rings in the background, then Im always looking out the window and trying to answer the phone..

These bi/di-pole 3-way side surrounds regularly go on sale for under $200 ea. Energy VS-Surround in high gloss piano black. Easy to mount, beautiful speaker and they sound great.

No brainier. Since you have all Ascend speakers, you must get Ascend speakers for surround. The only question is which Ascend to get.

Best case scenario is to get identical matching speakers all around. But at least match the brand and aesthetic.

I have ascends as well for my mains/center/side surrounds. best speakers i've ever heard!!! Actually looking to get some htm 200's as we speak for my rear surrounds. Gotta love the 340 and 170's too!!!

You cant go wrong with Ascend, and i honestly think they are the last thing i would upgrade in my home theater room. Cant be happier. Simply amazing for the money.

Actually, I'd say CBM170SEs since they are under $400 also, but if you want to save a few bucks the HTM200s should do just fine

The 170's are much larger, and rear ported, the 200's are nice and tight with no porting they are perfect surround speakers.. you can not go wrong...
