For sub purposes if that opening into the kitchen was open, and not able to be closed off with a door (at least it looks like you can), your kitchen would be part of the space the sub "sees"....I have a large opening into my adjacent space with no doors. Thanks for the tip! The guys from BK think alike! With the extra information about the room (and my music taste) they now recommend the monolith It's a shame that it's such an ugly box

LOL somewhat the nature of a box. Now, if you DIY you can make it into a side table or something....

It's not the box itself, it's the vent that I find kinda ugly. But oh well, if it performs I'll be the last to complain!

With the grill on you don't have to look at the port....

Get the DF version and you wont see it.

Hey, me again. I keep having doubts about my choice. Is room size fixable by having 2 instead of 1 sealed subs, or is there an absolute quality reason to go for sealed in larger rooms? Also I saw a thread on this forum that says that my room (70 square meter) still qualifies as "small".

The audioholics article I linked earlier calls your room volume as a medium sized room (assuming you mean 70 cubic meters). Not sure what you are referring to in conflating sealed subs and larger rooms, though. Ported can offer output advantages, sealed generally a smaller form factor but either type of design can work....

hi guys, so i'm relatively new to home audio - and wanted some advice on the best sub to go with my current set-up (in my signature below). perhaps a silly question - but should i look to match the colour of the sub w/ my speakers (the dynaudio's are matte black).

more importantly - any thoughts on the below subs, and which is best for my setup? currently watching "the americans" tv series..and thinking the sub may make the experience even better! budget up to £800 max
- SVS SB-2000
- BKELEC Monolith-DF Plus
- BKELEC XXLS400-DF
- any other options to consider?

also - would subwoofer be OK to move from the UK to the USA (seems speakers would be OK to move, whereas the AV amp would not). so just curious about the sub

It depends how big your room is do you need the more powerfull Monolith+ or would you get away with XXLS400. As for color, what ever pleases your eye. I personally would aim for duals, so it could be good idea to get dual XXLS400 as it is close to your budget or dual P12-300SB if you want to stay in budget.

As for moving to USA you would need a input converter of somekind I believe.

the living room is 5mx3m with high ceilings. i would prefer to buy equipment i can keep for a longer time and grow into (if move to a bigger house for example). so - maybe i should get a single sub for now (dont have so much space for 2 subs), so maybe the XXLS400 with the aim of adding a second sub longer term?

in terms of colour - is there any rules for how to match speakers and subs? i dont want to get matt black xxls400 as probably wont exactly match the matte black dynaudios, so choice is:
- walnut (i like the look of it but maybe hard to match with my current set-up)
- shiny black (matches w/ TV and AV receiver)
- black ash (not sure goes w/ anything but looks a nice texture)

current set up (may get speaker stands dont worry!)

XXLS400 is solid choice. Your room is slightly larger than mine but it should still fill it with authority. Having multiple subs helps to get more even bass on all seating positions. As for color there is no rule. I personally went matte black as it works with pretty much anything. Having something that blends with your room theme / furniture is good way imo.

thanks for your advice! i'll definatley consider getting the second sub once i move into a larger home, but for now i'm looking forward to watching TV series with the new setup!

Hopefully if you get the stands you'll spread your speakers further apart for improved sound (aim for an equilateral triangle with your seat).

I personally like the down firing as they are more forgiving for placement and kids/pets wont see the element and start to play with it, for the sound quality it should not matter and comes more to personal preference.
