Best Solution for Flac (Digital File formats)???

This is one of the things that ticks me off about Onkyo's support. The real issue is that their receivers don't really support FLAC very well (USB only). They like to blame every music server on the planet's method of serving up FLAC files when they problem is in their own firmware. But fixing a bazillion receivers is too expensive so it's everybody else's fault.
Yeah when I spoke to the Onkyo support rep he said this was the first time he had heard of a problem playing flac

Given the receiver's ability to update its firmware, this really shouldnt be an issue still!

This is why all of my CDs I ripped in the lossless format that's been around forever and can be read by just about anything- .wav files. FLAC always seemed too trendy of a format for me when .wav files are what's been on CDs ever since their inception.

Unfortunately the majority of my music collection was acquired already in flac or shn formats. Didn't seem too big of a deal years ago when I started collecting bootlegs but its becoming a PITA with this A/V upgrade I just did :(

FLAC is actually becoming the go-to standard for lossless audio and has several advantages over WAV. Just because Onkyo refuses to fix an issue with their firmware doesn't make FLAC less desirable, not when any home media player worth its salt supports FLAC.

What advantages does FLAC have over WAV?

I'm wondering the same thing. File size just isn't an issue anymore with the cost per gig where it is. What tags can you apply to a FLAC file that you can't to an meda player file?

It isnt necessarily an issue when streaming, as we are discussing, but when loading onto a DAP device with limited storage space it is definitely a benefit.

Applying ID3 tags to wav files has a history of causing errors in the WAV container. Honestly its been years since I have attempted to do so since most of my listening has been through tagged flac files (through WinAmp and Rio Karma). Most players will allow tagging but it isnt part of the WAV metadata as it is with a flac file. As an example, every week when I travel, I simply drag and drop my flac files with tags onto my Karma and I'm off. No decoding and retagging of files is required and I am not creating more files to have to later delete to conserve space.

Smaller file size while retaining audio quality.
Ability to apply tags to files.
I use WMP to rip my CDs to WAV and the tags are automatic. I don't ever have problems with the tags on my WAV files.

And I guess size may be an "issue", but not to some people. Although LossLess is LossLess, but I prefer a 100% UNCOMPRESSED music file over a COMPRESSED music file. Why would I want to compress anything if don't have to?
