This is California man, basements are a rareity unless it is an old house :D It sounds like it is a converted loft possibly, which likely has some concrete walls.

J Garcia,

You are fairly close. I live in a newly constructed urban townhome (rare in SF). There is no basement and the wall where the TV backs onto the stairs to the 2nd floor which has negated the ability to do in-wall/on-wall speakers. I have convinced my wife that ceiling speakers would be an expensive install so she will have to settle for speakers on the floor/stand. I don't mind the size of my Titans but want to use this opportunity to upgrade to a higher quality speaker.

I don't know what your budget is, but since you say you are looking to upgrade these would be worth giving a listen to if you can find a dealer nearby. They make very slim profile speakers (all of which look beautiful and would probably pass WAF), and are very detailed, accurate speakers. Coupled with a subwoofer, these speakers shine especially with music.

You might also check out the Definitive Technology Mythos speakers. I'd say the Mirage omnipolars, but they shouldn't be setup close to the wall. The Monitor Audio Radius speakers mentioned earlier are also very nice looking.
