What are the three best sacd's you've encountered (of any genre)?

As I'm new to sacd, I only have a few that I can call the "best" thus far. They are:

1) Mile Davis/John Coltrane "Kind of Blue"
2) Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms"
3) The Carpenters "The Singles, 1969-1981"

Are you forgetting Pink Floyd, DSOM?
While far from my favorite PF recording; it almost by itself justfies the invention of SACD. IMHO.

DSotM for sure.
Peter Gabriel's Up
The Rolling Stones' Hot Rocks

Boston Symphony/Munch: Organ Symphony

Spectacular three channel SACD reissue. That it is almost fifty years old boggles my mind.

A tip for someone to investigate (I can't play SACD myself) - the three remastered-collectors-edition Depeche Mode albums that were released at the weekend have SACD mixes to try - but the 5.1 DTS mix of each album is very good IMO - so the SACD version's probably quite good too !

"A Broken Frame".
"Music for the Masses".
"Violator".

All of the rest of their albums will be released in the same formats over the course of this year (1 CD/SACD + 1 DVD with album remixed in DD & DTS & other extras).

Best SACDs...

For sure, DSOTM...

The first 4 or 5 Elton John albums (before he became the Brown Dirt Cowboy)... excellent surround remixing and excellent music...

Allman Brothers Eat A Peach...

Santana Abraxas...

Don't waste your money on the studio Norah Jones album in SACD...

Patricia Barber Companion (live) and Cafe Blue Both 2ch only, but amazing recordings. I'm not entirely crazy about her vocals on all the tracks, but the music overall is very good (jazz).

I agree with that, but with Avalon you sort of have to know Roxy Music's music style first. I wouldn't say it is for everyone. It is an very well done SACD and I really like it, but it's basically moody, brooding, 80s music and may not be to everyone's liking. Though I like it, I don't listen to it that often either.

I also like Godsmack's Other Side - pretty well mixed, nice clean sound.

One that I haven't heard yet, but would like to get a hold of is Jazz at the Pawnshop. I have the redbook CD version and it is already probably the best recording I've ever heard. The only problem is, the SACD is quite expensive at around $50-60 (2 disc).

McDonald...

You need to check out Michael McDonald's Motown II on SACD, and the 1st Motown on DVD-A... both are beautifully recorded discs. His motown hits version sound a lot better than some of the originals actually! :)

Bach's organ tochatas (?) by E. Power Biggs from the 1970s. This was originally a quadrophonic recording at a cathedral in Freiburg where one keyboard could independently control four organs scattered through the giant cathedral. 6 second delay from the front to the back of it. It made me wish I had four subwoofers!
