About a year ago, I received some free Polk Audio S-10 Floorstanding speakers, that are just AWESOME, and the best loudspeakers I've had (my previous loudspeakers were Technics SB-CR33). The Polks have a 1-inch dome tweeter, 7" midrange, and 10" reinforced woofer, and have a capability of 200 watts per channel max power. I currently use a Sony STRDE885 receiver. I've had it for about five years now with no problems. However, the THD rate is a little high (1% THD in Stereo mode).
I have an older Sherwood receiver dated from the late 70's-early 80's, and puts out 140W a channel at 0.06% THD in Stereo mode, and when the speakers are hooked up to that amplifier, they sound SO MUCH BETTER. I used that old amp and the Polks at a wedding reception in the last two weeks in a recreation hall, and they sounded awesome. Obviously I need to upgrade my amplifier. Sony used to make better amplifiers years back. I plan on switching to a Yamaha receiver. They have the lowest THD in the low price range (0.06% THD). Denon has 0.08% THD, which isn't bad either.
However, I do not like Denon's setup menus in the receiver, a bit confusing. Onkyo is good too, but distortion rate is not as low as Yamaha or Denon.
Just wanted to put in my $0.02.
But yeah, if any of you run across some Polk S-10 loudspeakers, get them. I got them free, but I would've paid $200 for them easily if I came across them somewhere.
