What for? Am I wrong, or did I correctly count 6 responses since the last time you asked a question?

Any new questions? I don't think you've listed a single requirement of the processor, only that you want sufficient power, but none of us knows what is sufficient for YOUR uses.

HexOmega gave you great info about your speakers' characteristics.

You don't even need to spend 1k since you don't have any special processing requirements really.

But since we have 1k to work with, buy any affordable receiver with preouts for say $500, and throw the other $500 into an outboard amp. If willing to spend $600 on the amp try that UPA7 on closeout.

Done.

Why beat the dead horse?

Either the Denon AVR-3311 plus an Emotiva XPA-3 or AVR-3311 plus Emotiva UPA-7. You only need the UPA-5 but the UPA-7 is now dirt cheap at $599.

My thoughts exactly.

I also looked up the XPA3, but I figure it's overkill for the speakers in question, and is a bit more costly. I suppose the XPA3 future proofs front speaker upgrades, while the UPA7 allows the flexibility with changing to a dedicated pre/pro in the future.

No...UPA-7 lets you try-amp a DIY stereo pair in the future

His room is small so he does not need a lot of power. I was exactly thinking about future proofing with the XPA-3 for the front speakers. You are right if he has no specific requirements for the prepro then he can get a cheaper one. I think the Yamaha RX-V667 at <$500 may be unbeatable. It even comes with 3D capability whether it is needed or not. I missed the point that he had a budget of only 1K.

That was the very first receiver I looked up. I didn't even notice HDMI 1.4.

I am sure Grant has some nice Marantz to suggest, and I know rnatalli has common Onkyo suggestions as well.

Thanks everyone.

I'm thinking of going as high as $2000 and I'm leaning towards the Rotel RSX-1550 or the Sony STR-DA5400ES, which WHAT HI*FI? SOUND AND VISION magazine claims is better for the money.

Since we're talking an increase in budget, do you have any further thoughts for a receiver?

What I would do is find a receiver that had preamp outputs for all channels and had all of the features I wanted, from a reputable company (e.g., Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, whatever). If the Yamaha RX-V667 had all the features I wanted, I would not pay more. I would try it out with the speakers, and if it could not play the speakers as loud as I wanted, I would then buy a separate power amplifier. Generally speaking, putting extra money into a receiver is like flushing it down the toilet. This is because you are unlikely to hear a difference in most cases (if they are set up properly), and because it is the part that you will most likely want to upgrade in your sound system when they come out with new features.

The reviews of your speakers suggest that the impedance dips are not a major issue, and so I would not be overly concerned about it. But if whatever receiver you buy seems to run hotter than usual (which can be hard to tell, as many of them run pretty hot), or if it actually shuts down (goes into protection mode) when playing loud, or if when playing loud the sound is distorted (which, however, could be caused either by reaching the limits of the speakers or the amplifier), then I would be looking at a separate power amplifier. And a separate power amplifier can get you more power than you can get in a receiver, so this will likely be the better way to get more power anyway.

First of all ask yourself this

"In what way is this product better? Which of its features will benefit me most? Is it up-to-date? Is it a worthwhile financial investment if something a fraction of the cost will provide me with near identical performance, and adding a separates amp to that aformentioned alternative will give me superior performance? Am I buying this for name recognition or aesthetics of for end-results? Is it future ready in case I make a change here or there?"

I have nothing against rotel although i'd stear clear of the sony. But You have to make this decision with respect to maximizing what you get in return, not based on what a review tells you is best. I probably already recommendeed a b-stock marantz sr5004 or 5005 paired with an Emotiva UPA-7 - and if I did - I did for a reason.

Gain fabric softener works good and smells great. It also makes my Klipsch speakers sound so much smoother. I guess it softens more than fabric.‍♂
