Best Pre-pro for $1000-$1500

any recommendations? music is my primary focus. as the article recommending different systems on this website said, i am audio-centric. this unit will spend a whole lot of time playing 2-channel stereo. but i watch my share of movies as well. i would like it to have phono and ipod inputs. it will be driving some mackie monitors, which are active. i've read the articles on this website, but the don't address this price range. thanks for any help anyone can give

Unfortunatley the two I would recommend are very hard to get right now.

The Onkyo Pro 885 or the Integra 9.8 Both of these have direct or pure mode for 2 channel, balanced ouputs, multi-zone, plus all the bells and whistles for HT. I waited for a month and a half for my 885 but I got a gread deal from a place in NJ.

The Integra msrp is $1600 and the Onkyo is $1649 at a few places online. I paid way less than that but the Integra seems to have less wiggle room.

If it is mostly 2 channel , maybe take a look at the Sunfire TGP 2 or 3 , used on Audiogone . they both come with Sonic Hologram , but the TGP3 has Digital Hologram , which from what ive heard is very good for 2 channel listining , better than the Analog SH .
