Best Party Subwoofer for $600 MAX?

Pretty simple question: What would you buy for $600 if your main use would be house parties.

I have two Infinity Beta 50 floor standing speakers with a Harmon Kardon 2.1 Receiver #3485.

Listening preferences is mostly hip hop and selective metal. But playing loud under 20hz isn't a main concern since it will be used for mostly music.

What would be the best band for the buck subwoofer? Considering sound quality, accuracy, and SPL. All of those aspects are equally important. Basically looking for the best all around subwoofer for my music listening.

Velodyne DLS-5000R or 4000R

too bad the 3485 doesn't have a subwoofer crossover for the mains, it could save your speakers if some drunk guy maxes out the volume.

something like this might help:

(70hz or 50hz should be good)

The AV-123 MFW 15, Elemental Design A5-350, Epik Knight will all outperform the 4000R. The DLS-5000R is $200 bucks outside the OP's price range.

Hmmm.... A 15" 550 Watt A5-350 or a 12" 200 watt Velo 4000R?

Given the application, I wouldn't think sound quality would matter much at all.

I can recommend an SVS 25-31 PCi. Great bang for the buck and looks better than those ugly boxes;):D

If it is meant for house parties, he may want to check out the eD sub. Has a tough finish that can take some abuse. The MFW-15 has a great finish but may get marked up and look even worse than the eD because of it.

The satin black AV123 finish should hold up well. It is automotive grade paint and not vinyl like most other subs in this price range. The real wood finish options are out of the OP's price range anyway.

let's wait for the OP to confirm if he can wait for back ordered subwoofers.

the AV123 sub is tuned to 18hz i think ... the A5-350, 22hz, the DLS-4000R 30hz ...

Yes I could wait, but for how long? Is there a sub that stands out as the best for $600?

I think you could kick the sonotube subs with steel toe shoes and it would do nothing:D I guess the carpet covering could get damaged. My plus is pretty durable, and can be tucked in the corner better than a giant box. The drawback is that someone could spill a Busch Light in one of the ports:0

FWIW, I think the Ed one would do this person fine as well.

for the eD? 6 weeks minimum. 10 weeks max.

for the AV123? they currently say April delivery. but their deadline is usually flexible.

personally, I'd go for the eD if you can wait ... you don't need the low tuning of the AV123 (and the more sensitive finish - easier to scratch)

all of which are backordered. i bought my 1st DLS-5000R for 800 bucks in the Philippines. I would have imagined that it was way cheaper there. even in canada (land of the overtaxed electronics) it was 600+ USD.

for what? party SPL? do you know which one would be the loudest for party music?

have you heard the DLS-R models? have you measured your A5-350?

I have heard the Velo 4000r directly up against the eD A5-350. No measurement needed. The eD stomped it. Both music and HT. Want to tighten the eD up, stuff the ports. Want to get the 4000R to be more authoritative, replace it.

buy louder speakers!

If it's for parties you would do better buying a pair of KLIPSCH CORNWALLS, CERWIN VEGAS VS 12's or 15.;) They will work fine with your harman kardan, & will be easy to set up.;)

I'll tell you what, I have never minded waiting 4-6 weeks for a product that I will be enjoying for the next 4-6 YEARS, at least...

I biased here, but i reckon The CV VE-12 or VE-15. like mike c said, his amp doesnt have a subwoofer crossover and these speakers wont mind if a drunk guy turns it up to far. I have them and while Their great for movies, loud as hell, ball busting, make ya feel sick volume music is their strong point. plus they dont need much power to push them there. I have had parties and most of the time people tell me to turn it DOWN:D

I was waiting for someone to mention a real house party sub, I'm seeing a ton of HT subs. I'd take a look around for something like a CV JE-36B sub. It's one of their pro line subs and you'll need to add an amp to it but for parties it's going to crush. Look and see what you can find around, Guitar Center has it listed for $550 with no amp.
