Right now I own a 5.1set of polk rti28 bookshelfs, but I'm looking to upgrade. I have between 800 and 1000 dollars for a pair. I was looking at av123's new X-Statiks or possibly some polk floor standers(rtia7's) Any suggestions?I plan to buy a yamaha rxv1800,onkyo 805 or denon 2308 or 2808 to run the system

I had 7 NHT SuperZeros + SW2P subwoofer for 7.1 HT. Sold the entire system and started over from scratch. Are you planning on eventually buying a whole new system, or just keeping the rest of the Polk bookshelfs?

If starting from scratch, I would get the Def Tech BP10B 42" towers (20Hz-20kHz +/-6dB) for $800 street price. Then build on that.

If not, I would get the Polk towers.

If you have been considering AV123, you might want to also consider the Strata Mini's $1299/pair. Normal price is $1995/pair. Also the RS850's are $1,000/pair right now. Normal price is $1,999/pair. That's an absolute steal. Or you could get a full package (center and surrounds) for about $1,700, which would normally sell for about $3,200. Anyway, thought you might want to look into that since the sale is so good. You could walk away with a lot more speaker for your money. :D

In addition to zumbo's good offerings, some bookshelves I would consider at that price point, all between $800-1000

Dynaudio Audience line. The most affordable of their many expensive lines. I think the very cheapest bookshelves are still close to a thousand:

Ascend Sierra

The first and last offer 30 day trials. I saw on Audiogon the Dyn 52 SE, condition 10/10, full-warranty applied from dealer, going for $850, down from MSRP of $1400.

Whatever you get, Im sure they will sound great. Good luck.

I was looking at av123 and saw that soon they were releasing their X-Statik speakers. They are going to be 800 a pair. They have 2 6.5 in a sealed box and two more and a tweeter in an open baffle.http://av123.wetpaint.com/page/x-statik What kind of different sound does an open baffle give, or am I going down the wrong path with this design.By the way, I will eventually phase out the polk bookshelfs, so I am starting a new set.

If you want open baffle, I would suggest you save up and go for the Linkwitz Orion, or even the Orion++ if you are ambitious. I have heard the Orion and it was definitely an excellent loudspeaker by most standards. The cost is higher, but I would say that it represents a good value.
