best option for all-in-one cd player

Hi,

I was wondering what you would recommend for listening to CDs at low volume in a bedroom from a single, self-contained unit, e.g., a boombox-like product or something like a Bose radio with a built in cd player or the Tivoli Audio Music System (but hopefully less expensive than that, which is about $1,000)?

Are you restricted to something with speakers contained within the main unit? Are there any specific features that you need, such as a clock and CD/alarm?

Boston Acoustics and Cambridge Audio are a couple of all-in-one systems that seem to offer at least the level of a Bose Wave Radio if not better at a lower price.

I have a CD player/Clock radio in my bedroom, but never listen to it. I use my mp3 player & ear buds.

Maybe the Cambridge system should be avoided after reading those customer reviews. Flaky and doesn't play many redbook CDs, that would be a big problem for me. Good for an iPod dock and radio, but with the glaring issues it seems to inherently have I'd say there's a good reason it's on sale.

I've had it's daddy, a Model 88 radio-only model, since 1999 and it's still going strong. It's got two "aux" inputs and I have a portable CD player in one and a cable for my MP3 devices on the other. Fills the bedroom with great sound.

And, I've always had a thing against "all-in-one" high-end units in that if one part of it fails and ian't servicable, you're stuck with a half-functional unit.

To sum it up, I'd go for the CSW radio only unit.

I read at least two reviews that specifically stated that some regular redbook cds wouldn't play unless you ejected and reincerted the same disc more than once, and that was just the first few reviews.
