From a pure industry impact I think Playstation 1 and N64 are closely tied. Mario 64, Goldeneye, and LoZ: Ocarina of Time were masterpieces. Playstation had several as well (my memory is failing me right now on them). I don't disagree with the arguments for Atari or NES. I just think the leap of that PS1/N64 era was the biggest I can think of, with years of 10/10 games taking full advantage of them.
Today, I truly think the current gen Xbox and game pass offer the best experience. Huge back compat catalog, console/PC/streaming options, and now EA/Bethesda/etc. games included. I play on both my PC and Xbox, depending on the game and the situation. Love having the option. Played one game fully streaming (A Plague Tale, amazing!) and it worked perfectly.
