Best Dolby Atmos receivers under $600?

Hello everyone! This is my first post here and I have recently become interested in home theatre systems and I was looking into getting a receiver that is capable of Dolby atmos playback, I looked at the Denon AVR-X1600H but I know nothing about what brands are quality and which are not, I currently have an Onkoyo 5.1.2 atoms setup. Any recommendations? I was also looking for a new subwoofer, would I be able to replace the onkoyo one with say one from klipsch?

If you don't need a phono input , check out the X3400H

IMHO Klipsch isn't known for their subs...get one from SVS, HSU or Rythmik. If you can increase your budget for your sub, definitely check out PSA & JTR

Okay cool! Denon is good brand then? I know they make some really high end equipment but I wasn’t sure about the lower tiers. And I wouldn’t have any issues using my Onkoyo speakers with this? Sorry I’m a noob lol thanks for the recommendation

Phono is on the back, it's for a record player.

The 3xxx range is more of the mid-tier offering from Denon.

This has 7 ch amp. I don't see pre-out for Atmos on the back. I see surround and surround back. Would that where the Atmos out is?
Or, now I see that the back surrounds can be assigned to Atmos for 2 speakers for a 5.1or2.2

If your Onkyo (HTIB?) setup has one of their (fairly normal) avrs at the heart, and an active sub rather than a passive sub, the Onkyo speakers/sub should work okay....but what Onkyo model(s) specifically do you have?

PS I agree about the Klipsch subs generally, although they have a couple models that are decent if you get a good price, but going to a sub specialist like SVS, Hsu, Power Sound Audio, Rythmik, etc would be better....

Ah okay thanks for that, it’s an HT-R494 reciever, and the sub came with it, it was a complete 5.1.2 setup(HTIB as you said), but it is a powered skw-593, would that still be alright?

And okay awesome ill check out those companies, anything particular you like for around $400-$500?

Basically real components that can be interchanged, one of the advantages of having components in the first place . Looked at the system manual (HTP-593) and the speakers are 6 ohm rated, sometimes they're ridiculously low impedance (like 3 ohm).

Why a sealed sub? (your current one is ported/vented design) How big a room do you have? SVS' entry level subs are well regarded. A $400 sub you might look at is the RSL Speedwoofer10s. The Hsu VTF-2 mk3 is a bit more than $500 with shipping but would be another entry level sub I'd consider.

And the Sub I chose was mostly because I was told SVS was a better brand for woofers than klipsch and I found one within my price range, I wasn’t aware there were different sub designs, my room is medium sized I’d say, maybe 11’x11’ give or take a foot. Would one type be better suited for smaller rooms than another? ill do do some research on my own too, thank you again

LOL I didn't do any research I just like subs (and build my own these days). SVS is indeed a better brand for subs than Klipsch, altho the Klipsch R-112SW and R-115SW are not bad if the price is right.

In a room your size you also get a bit of cabin gain to help out (altho a square or cube shaped room can add some acoustic issues).

You can't go wrong with SVS, tho you might find better bang for your buck with Hsu, or the RSL Speedwoofer HD mentioned above. Those measurements for your room, is that a closed room or open to other areas? When it comes to subwoofers they "see" all of the open space in the area and will impact what size to get. For an 11 x 11 room I'd say the RSL will do a good job for you and be the most cost effective.

Audioholics did a review on it here and they seem to really like it, tho noted that it falls a little short of 20 hz on the bottom end. That's fine for almost any music, but might leave you wanting a bit more for movies. Then I'd look at the Hsu option.

I was looking at the speedwoofer, but now that you mention the movie part maybe it’s not the best choice since that’s primarily what I use my setup for. The room is also totally closed off from any other rooms when the
speakers are being used

@Pogre has SVS Ultra speakers. I have some older SVS speakers (MBS-02) which I like, altho not my main speakers.

Yes I actually just took a look at his setup myself, and the audio envy is real! Those SVS ultra speakers look Killer man.

I own all SVS Ultra speakers. 2 towers and 3 bookshelf speakers for my surrounds and center channel. Love them. I kept an eye on their outlet and got great deals on the whole set. Most have some kind of imperfection, but some are so lightly or barely nicked that you'll have trouble finding the mark. Just make sure to check the images they include on the page with the speaker(s).

I started with a stereo pair of Ultra bookshelves (fell in love immediately) I got for 399 apiece, then a third for the center, then eventually the towers all over the course of 6 or 8 months or so. In total I saved about 500 bucks going that route and don't regret it one bit. The same return policy and warranties as new apply too so there's really no risk either.

Using a sub in a small room like that I'd go with the bookshelf speakers. Even in my big room the towers are a little superfluous with subs, but I really wanted them, lol.
